You could try your local selling sites on Facebook? You could even post a wanted add.
That's if you "do" Facebook….

Do you have Streetlife in your area? Local message board type forum. Free to join, post you want a dressmaker and you'll get recommendations.
I lived in Cyprus when my daughter got married in the UK. She wanted Autumn colours and I already had a straight orange silk dress ( sounds vile, looks nice) Local dressmaker made me a chocolate brown shot silk duster coat. Bought shoes and bag in Larnaca and whole outfit set me back £60.

Have you tried Phase Eight? They do larger sizes and not all pencil style (y)
I was going to suggest that , nice dresses with a jacket can be worn again as I find one outfit events a total waste of money!
Although it is a very special occasion and an important role for the day MOB!
When we got married my gran who was 87 wore the same outfit 2 years later for my sisters wedding! She stole the show!!
Good luck!

Orange dress sounds lovely. I think that's the colour I want. I'll try the dress maker idea.

If you have a fabric shop/haberdashery in your nearest town they may have a notice board which should give you local dressmakers - or they can advise you. They are a rare resource now but the impact of the BBC sewing bee programme means there are more people advertising services.

I have the same problem with big feet but had a few pairs from here they were really helpful on phone too.

I too wouldnt rule out the charity shop route, if only for accessories, find a posh one! my mum got a beautiful outfit for my daughters wedding from the local hospice shop near us, at 82 she looked amazing, I took the outfit and hat back to the shop 18 months later she had paid about £80 I think. I also took back my hat that cost a fortune ... I knew I would never wear it again.

I looked for a smart trouser outfit for our daughter's wedding four years ago as dresses don't suit me. Bought a lovely three piece outfit with palazzo trousers from a shop called Chesca, they have departments in House of Fraser I think. Good luck with your search.

I'm delighted to say I found an outfit I like at Dreams Bridal in Rackheath which has a big sale on.

However I now need shoes and am a wide size 9. Does anyone have any ideas where I can go for big blue shoes? (Brantano is a good idea. Thanks )
I have discovered 'shoes of prey' custom made but at a hefty £150 not cheap! (Katie long shoes was also a good website for big feet )

Don't forget to exfoliate your elbows every day for 8 weeks before the wedding.

That was on my wife's pre wedding check list:doh:

Lovely suit ! and errr, eminently, well, suitable!

I see that with turquoise headgear (not necessarily a hat, but something to set off your Barnet LOL) and bag but you do have shedloads of choice with shoe colour at least, really, in view of the beige/sepia tones in the material in addition to the blue.

May I also suggest a more noticeable (not too noticeable though!) perhaps very slightly longer necklace - as the one in the photo doesn't show up too well, unlike your bracelet - and that's a shame. And it would 'show off' the soft neckline better too methinks.

Thanks for all the nice remarks. So glad I didn't go for a pencil and bolero number as that is not me.
Yes that wasn't the final outfit just the dress- having blue 'pearls' made for me and a fascinator to add later. Just ordered these shoes - peep toe .

Custom made from shoes of prey - sadly they soak up the discount left over from the sale dress . Well that's a good way to explain £150 shoes to hubby haha.
