Where else but Fun will you get an offer like this
Thurday evening I will be attending a VOSA seminar
to discuss amongst other things the latest EU directives to harmonise EU mot tests and CERTIFICiATES
Does this mean EU mot certs will be recognised here and visa versa will it mean you can get your vehicle mot'd anywhere in the EU:Eeek:
we will have to wait and see
    Other items on the agenda
Hid headlights (aftermarket add on kits) possible future MoT failure:RollEyes:

The two year MoT test is it happening?

Chipping engines is illegal in some parts of the EU

Vosa is looking at this being a testable/failure item:Eeek:

Any warning lamps on the Dash possible future MoT failure:RollEyes:

Post here any questions you want an answer to

I cant take over the meeting but will try to get as many answered as possible
I also cant gaurantee the answer will be what you want to hear:Doh:
    Geo
I will do a print out of the posts/questions about 4pm Thursday 20th and take them with me

    Interesting...

Chipping, why is there an issue here, if the emissions are within limits what's the issue, don't much fancy our chances at an answer but......

Mind you the only chips round here are the frozen potato variety but hey:thumb:

Nowt to do with us here (yet)
But in Newzealand when the boys get pulled with lowered suspension thier warrant (MoT) gets cancelled on the spot:Eeek: they'd have a ball in the UK with that one alone
as for chipping the EU dont like it so be told:cry-smile:

    1. My first is what are 'Hid headlights'?

    2. How is a tester going to know if a chip has been fitted by the manufacturer or as an after market add on, will it show up on the diagnostic computer?

    3. Do you have to plug a computer in when you test a vehicle?

    4. On warning lamps, will this include self fitted warning lamps or only manufactures fitted ones? I could fit a warning light for any strange reason I choose, why should this be included?

    5. If we fit uprated suspension units (air suspension) will they be included in the test the same as a chip?

Simple, make a vehicle go faster, so what about suspension and brakes.

Clearly not really an issue with us MHers but would be in a hot hatch driven by a lunatic.

I believe that in Spain the weight of a MH is part of the test, is this likely to be introduced into the UK.

I would be very interested in any information regarding the validity of EU tests in the UK

This is something that I am hoping for in the future so that we won't keep having to return to the UK simply for testing.

Let me know if have any info on that.

Regards to both you and Pammy, I have no doubt our paths will cross soon

    Hi Doug
The latest brake roller testing machines, also the new one man testing lanes already have the facility in built, to weight the vehicle being tested so it is likely that in the interest's of EU Harmony it wont be long.
Its how I found out my full up weight of the RV, booked in a test on the way to a New Year Fun Meet fully laden with excess beer as well
He asked if i wanted the weighty ticket
I declined with a smile (me thinks he knew why) and gave it to me anyway 7.48 Ton:Eeek: all up:thumb:
I had the biggest smile of all, all the way to Grantham:thumb:

I'd love to hear the government defence if someone tries to upset an MOT failure because of a remapped engine, specifically and proveably modified to decrease emissions!!!

Mot Testers are a bit like the Vat and Tax man.
we don't have to defend anything as its all written down for us to follow:Doh:
As for the Governments defence, When did they ever need one:RollEyes:
It will no doubt prove a waste of time
In my opinion our Testing method are a long way from perfect but a damn sight better than anything the EU can dream up
At the moment there is no room for common sense in the MOT test, and they just want to make sure theres no room for it period:Doh:

When I have an MOT done I go to the same family garage I have used and my dad used for years the main reason being
1 they have plenty of work and I trust them not to make any more
2 I want my vehicles safe
3 they deserve my money as they have given me good service and that is rare in these days
4 that is why they get to service my car I trust them

Do all these changes mean it is harder and harder for the small independent garages to carry on testing and we will have to go to government test centres?

Why would you want to lower a motorhomes suspension anyway:Doh: Higher it yes but not lower!!
Thing is if chipping gets pulled on a test and your told No thats illegal do you have recourse to get your cash back..and will these chipping chaps all lose their livelihood if it can be proven chipping lowers emissions then what will HM Government do??
One thing puzzles me..a left hand drive Motorhome with the habitation door that lets you out onto the offside into traffic can be approved and legal in UK ..But a right hand drive one can't be approved in France or Spain because the habitation door lets you out on the WRONG side..HMMM why... Could that question be put forward please for harmonisation!!

Id give it about another 10 years, then you be forced into privatel test centres like Spains tuv testing facilities, they will be few and far between and you may have to book 3 months in advance
!00 mm Minimum from chassis actualy, and plod was measuring it wrong from the sill:Doh:
The same reasons it is extreamly difficult to register any forein vehicle in France and Spain not just motor homes,
Its to protect their own car industries
