I'm collecting my first motorhome at the beginning of April and would like some advice on door mirror protectors.

I've seen a couple of adverts, Mirror Guard and Milenco, is there much difference between the two?

Your comments would be most welcome.

Thank you

Speaking as someone who has just replaced a mirror I do think they look nice. I'm not sure how effective they are though. For small low impact scratchy stuff they have got to be better than none.
(In my case the arm pivot became slack so not a cover issue)

I have mirror guard and bought them at the NEC show. He showed me the milenco ones to compare to theirs. The mirror guards seem significantly stronger than milenco. Have a look at the stand in NEC and compare them.

Not sure which ours are but they are white. White is more noticeable than black so I think they make other people notice and avoid the mirrors.

I would certainly have them on the next motorhome - maybe even put orange reflective tape on them.

We have white Mirror Guards. They seem very robust, and have done their job with small branches. So far have not hit anything too robust, to find out how strong they really are.

White certainly makes the van look wider to oncoming traffic.

Bought them at the NEC last year.

EDIT: The thick plastic means that any scratches on the guards can be polished out.

Just lost a mirror in Morocco (for the second time in as many years)
In my opinion of you get clobbered by a myopic Specsavers dodging octogenarian French camping Cariste on the wrong side of the centre line and you are both doing 50mph then nothing is going to save your mirror.

Like PVCs the best
We had milenco White...smashed on our first trip to,France. ...but they did save the mirror to some extent...we were able to continue the trip with no mirror protectors, cracked mirrors and taped supports. I reckon without the protectors we would probably
have had no mirrors at all ...and a call to rescue services.
We now have spare pair of mirrors ...just in case

I have been advertising a pair of new white long arm genuine Mirrorguards for sale on behalf of a friend who changed MHs - they're brand new - I told him £100 was too much so he'll take £90 including P&P.

Let me know if interested.

As I was talking to my wife earlier about what we are looking for at the NEC, mirror protectors were one of them. She stated that she had only just passed a coachbuilt with white mirror protectors on and because the body was white too, she couldn't see the mirrors until close because they blended in with the white body. Black against the body would have been better. As the mirrors and arms are black any way, any comments on that statement??

It depends on how you're viewing them - if you're looking at them against the white sides of the MH then you won't see them so easily but if a vehicle is coming towards you the big white sticking out mirrors would be much easier to see than black ones.

It was from an on coming driver's view that Jane thought that the mirrors blended into the vehicle as you said. Straight on absolutely clear and easy to see, but slightly side on just disappeared. Black against white maybe easier.
Maybe white with dayglo strips are the answer.o_O

We bought some mirror guards at the Newbury show last year, purely because I liked the idea of white mirrors.
On the way back from VanBitz, a dozy HGV tanker lorry strayed into my lane and smacked the drivers mirror, and predictably didn't stop. pulled over as soon as I could and put the mirror back out, but it was dark and I couldn't see if there was any damage.
Next day, examined, and there is a small black scuff on the mirror guard, I'd say that is a good advert for them! :D

Thank you all very much for your comments.

It would appear Mirror Guard are a favourite because of their robust construction.

You've all been a great help.

Cheers
