Although we rarely use ours, we did provide a valuable service to a distraught mother with a screaming child on a campsite in Lyon. She ran over to us with a baby bottle and asked, "Does your van have a microwave?"
Realising the urgency of the situation, we said that we did and showed her in :D

We use ours on the inverter for heating meals previously made and frozen. It makes for good food on the road without needing all the ingredients and space we have at home.

i love the microwave and much prefer to the piddling grill/warming oven which is only used for storing things. I guess it depends entirely on lifestyle - being a solo traveller who often uses sites with EHU it is perfect for me. Just select some prepared meals from the freezer at home and job done for a few nights away.

Seldom use one at home and no need when away as more time to make things. No microwave can beat: Croissant and coffee for breakfast; seasonal fruit for lunch; baguette with cheese and a bottle of red in France with more fruit (add more alcohol as required). Our freezer is for ice and ice cream only. I have never liked a pinged frozen meal.

Took the microwave out of our previous Bolero, too much weight in the wrong place and too high up for my vertically challenged wife, only occasionally used anyway, also freed up a storage cabinet and a spare power point. Our new Autosleeper has one, but in a more sensible height and position.

Currently looking at possibility of fitting one. The option(s) are not great, as ALL the usable lockers are too high for safe use. Latest idea is to fabricate support using the (Rarely Needed) Steel Dinette Seat belt anchorage.? and an old T-V turntable?.

I don't like the thought of nuking my food... and only ever used the one in ex-marrital for warming plates... but the step youths loved it - conventional cooking was beyond there whit :xrofl:

Mums microwave at home has all gone flaky inside soI have just persuaded her to take the one from motorhome rather than buy another.

We have used it once. We are very rarely ever on EHU so it sits underneath like an ornament .

11yrs, but many years a tugger.
Our microwave is also an ordinary oven, a convection oven and a grill. When on hook up we use it a lot. When not on hook up I start up the Onan. Then everyone knows we are cooking something. :xrofl:

I use mine all the time on or off ehu. If it wasnt used it would be removed as its a heavy lump one of these days i will replace it with an inverter type which are much lighter and use less power on the lower settings.

Having felt the heat coming out of the back and/or sides of the last three microwaves, all different makes, we've had in the house over the last few years I would never install one in enclosed lockers, even if ventilated.... :xeek:

5 years, feel free to ask me about the Carado!!
Putting a technology developed for RADAR into a domestic cooking appliance somehow still seems risky to me :xsurprised:
We rarely use one, don't have one in the van either. Mrs CC has developed the art of one pan cooking!
When it comes to reassurances about electrical devices emitting radiation or high powered signals this picture pops into my head....the were assured it was all perfectly safe

We have had one in our previous 2 vans, but rarely used the first one because we never use campsites and only very occasionally have EHU.
The second one we used all the time, enabled by an on board generator. Now, we don't have one in the van or the house and only really miss it for warming up drinks and defrosting.
We are toying with the idea of getting a new one for the van but our cooker is so good we do everything in that now.

Why is there no option on the poll marked "I learned to cook"?
:xrofl::xrofl::xrofl:
But trying to be sensible, we do have a microwave at home and use it almost every day for defrosting frozen stuff, mostly milk and softening butter. But each to their own.

WE found it most usable for midday stops, when Touring in the USA, Run the Generator, Put the pre-prepared meal in and "Bingo!" Hot Meal!. Far better than stopping at some "Fast Food" Joint!. I am unable to Eat late in the day, without suffering half the night, so we have our main meal midday, even at home.

Per previous post, Knocked this rig up to try out:-

Nice to have, but very heavy. Stop and think about how important it is to you and what you could have in its place.

@PeteH I like your quality 'bodge' job, very good, it will also prove to be a useful extra shelf when cooking if the microwave isn't needed.

Rarely use ours at home. I cook gluten free pasta in it mainly, on the rare occasion we have pasta. Warm plates in it sometimes, oh yes and sometimes porridge. That's it. Haven't got one in Winnie and I don't know about the New MH.

I have one and use it regularly. However, mine's not built in, I bought it in Tesco for about £20 quid I think. It lives in the bottom of the wardrobe and comes out most evenings (gotta love readymeals!).

@PeteH Great bracket!!!

@Techno Great install!! Got any pics of the installation in progress? And do you vent the excess heat out of there somehow though?
