Not wanting to hijack the honest John thread, I thought I would start a new one. I have a 2010 auto sleeper Surrey based on a sprinter chassis ? 313, ? 316 2143cc engine, does this have a timing belt or a chain? I know some models have a chain but not sure of this one (I am a mechanical numpty )

Cheers. John

Sorry I cant help with these new fangled Mercs but those of us with old school Mercs don't have any engine worries whatsoever. We are definitely chain drive, much the same as old steam driven vehicles :thumb:.

The biggest problem were finding with merc diesel engines at the moment is the copper injector seals.
If it starts chuffing get it sorted quick as ignoring it can cost new injectors.

Change your oil regularly, and turn over when stored. It will make the chain last longer!

Loads of Merc Sprinter on eBay with 300,000 Miles+

Don't worry about your engine; just service it properly and make sure it's quality full-synthetic oil in the sump.

:)
