Very informative.

I wish they did in practice what the blog says they do though.

I had my application returned asking for the medical information that they returned with the application! Needless to say the 6 month wait is now well over that. When I phoned them they denied having had the medical information and only agreed they had had it when I quoted their stamped document numbers.

Mind it didn't help that the hospital had sent a copy of someone else's medical notes along with my own.

P.s No there's no point in doing that as I've just added three & they are "awaiting moderation ". So ,no chance of them being printed then is there.

It's taken my wife more than a year to get her C1 back since applying for it,think she had to see 4 doctors as DVLA have kept moving the goalposts to try and deter diabetics from holding a C1.No problem with her car and bike licence, just renew that every 3 years but every year for the C1.(n)

I don't care how often I have to renew, I am quite happy to do medicals and so on. I don't even object to the revocation of the licence as it is a huge safety issue and they HAVE to err on the side of caution. What I do object to is that I now meet all the requirements easily, have provided everything they have asked for and they are slow and incompetent and make huge errors. And when you phone you can't get to talk to anyone but a clerk. However nice and pleasant the clerk is he or she is not medically qualified and probably hasn't a clue as to the more obscure medical conditions.

What about when you phone and get some obnoxious imbecile that tells your nearest and dearest that if she has a hypo when driving a 5t motorhome she might kill several people but if she has one when riding her motorbike she will only kill herself, then refuses to give his name.Faceless, nameless twats.

I've left a comment but don't expect anything to come of it.

The "nice clerk" comment was a bit tongue in cheek as I've had both pleasant clerks and useless idiots.

Any vehicle can kill someone - including an unmotorised cycle .... or even a wheelchair. Perhaps the disabled should be banned from using wheelchairs as they may be taken ill and roll into the path of an HGV that takes avoiding action and causes an accident ........ or maybe anyone with a medical condition should not be allowed to leave their house.

My MSP is involved over the 21 days to appeal deadline in Scotland. Let's face it, a week to get the letter and then 2 weeks to make legal appointments, collect evidence and have a court hearing, it's not going to happen so in effect there is no appeal if you live in Scotland.

I see the hospital specialist in December, will see what she has to say, assuming all is okay (and I expect to get a discharge from the hospital) then if I get another knock-back after that will get my MP involved. Actually if the DVLA don't make a decision by the end of the year I will get my MP involved.

PS Heavily edited as I get more upset.

Just wondering @ianandkath about your appeal. I've read through the DVLA blog and also the Fitness to Drive criteria. Glenn has had his C1 revoked even although he appears to have met all the criteria. We're not really sure how to go about an appeal. Are you providing any additional evidence that you're fit to drive and if so where did you get it from?

The doctor that did my medical in April put down on the form that he THOUGHT he heard a heart murmur. Since proved wrong by Echoscan and ECGs confirming there was no problem. I had a form back for the same info June, as originally supplied. This was returned to DVLA who have acknowledged its receipt. I have a new doctor and she has confirmed that DVLA had contacted her and she had sent the info to them from the Echoscan. I contacted them last month and they confirmed my application was still valid and awaiting action. I am still waiting 6 months after the initial application for my licence. No medical condition and still I am waiting.

Thanks @Clarky. I've studied the site and found minutes of meeting held. From the minutes it seems that Glenn's medical may not have been carried out correctly as we was told by the hospital to stop his medication 48 hours before the treadmill test. The DVLA no longer require this. Also it seems they may have ignored an important reading. So think we may appeal on these grounds. Its worth a try.

How the hell do you register to sign in to use it - can you use the same ID and password as the 'Gov Gateway' one you might already have? - since Gov UK Verify seems to have replaced 'Gateway' - and you had to provide all sorts of info to register for that and it took quite a while to get your registration.

A friend has tried and says it wanted to know the name of the company who could provide them with confirmation of her identity ? - which I actually think having read all sorts of things about Verify is actually for access to 'sharp end' Gov info eg stuff bound by the Official Secrets Act - which quite coincidentally I'm still bound by - so still can't tell anyone else the ID of the individual I strongly suspected of bigamy 50 years ago LOL

Don't forget that it's still in the 'Beta' stage so you may not be able to fully access it yet.
Fortunately I don't need to.......yet.
I got the information because I'm signed up to receive emails from various .gov agencies.

Richard.
