Med coast of France (1 Viewer)

I am of to the Med coast of France on Friday, My plan is to start somewhere near Nice and work back towards Montpellier then travel back up through the center of France.

Anyone got any must see places to see or stay? I will be traveling with my wife and young childen (2 & 5yrs) so quiet beaches, campsites with swimming pools are always good.

I know now commercialised but I still would love to go back to St Tropez and Port Grimaud.

Hi Anthony!

Don't know much about places to stay but Nice is not the quiest place in France . You might be lucky though as summer holidays did not start yet , so you should find more room on the beaches ... which are not very wide!! A lot af restaurants /bars all along with all private beaches . No sand in this area only stones. I think you might find sand more around Antibes or Cannes, if I remember well! But well give it a try , as long as you are not going when the film festival is on, you'll be able to go through the town.

You should find nice places inland around Cagnes-sur -Mer , with campsites there, probably quieter. Unless you choose Polish campsite (i did once), all the others are quite expensive!

When you'll get near Montpellier , then you should find better prices . But I don't know which are best for motorhomes as I've always been tenting (as an adult... But been caravaning all my youth) .

In the south you have to worry about the wind
Look at the way the locals put their tents or caravans to avoid troubles.

Sorry it's all I can tell indeed... Many places to visit in MY area though

check out the strip of land at giens [google earth] just south of hyeres near toulon . one side has long sandy beaches and the other side has nice little coves, a choice of basic or well equiped campsites. boat trips to nearby islands etc . intended to stay there a couple of days before exploring and ended up staying 3 weeks !! thats the joy motorhoming isnt it !!

Nice? ok if you are staying in one of the hotel on the front... parking is the pits .. no chance with a motor home.. even Juan La Pins has had the tourist spoil it.. better going further West .. in land a little bit I can recommend the medieval town of Sommierres .. has a great camp site 5 star and the town has a good municipal site as well.. great little town, not a million miles from Montpellier .. the site is owned by the Castel group .. has a heated swimming pool with slides, but not over commercialised and idea for children.. good bike track to town.. Haribo factory not far away either. But do yourself a favour and avoid Nice, Cannes and that area.

As you come back up through France don't forget the Millau Bridge and Gorge du Tarn.
The bridge is best viewed from a distance and there is a visitors area underneath at the south end.
Gorge du Tarn is a spectacular drive through some splendid scenery of ravines and mountains. Good aire at Florac.
