Well hello all. Yesterday we left home under very grey skies, which brightened up the further east we went, and as we entered the tunnel it was positively blue skies all the way.

We came out the other side and the very grey skies had returned, with a helping of rain as well!

We decided to give Le Crotoy a miss in favour of somewhere different, and so went to Montreuil Sur Mer - what a mistake that was! It wasn't 'on the sea' and furthermore it was shut!!!

Some may like shabby chic but it ain't my cup of tea....

IMG_1579.JPG

This hotel had a whiff of Miss Havershams about it....

Difficult to see, but it had obviously been closed for years, but the tables inside were dressed for a wedding breakfast! :Eeek:

So we moved on today and nuffin has happened 'sept rain!! We've driven down as far as Caen with the vague idea of getting to Rennes tomorrow and hoping for better weather.

Can't seem to get enthused about this trip - it may be because of the horrible weather - so will hopefully check in with a much cheerier smile tomorrow!

Tbf, I think a map would have told you that.
However, once a year they perform Les Miserables play by Victor Hugo. Don't get it mixed up with the musical.
It's grandly set in the castle but

It's a play
It's in French
It gets cold because it starts at 21.00
However, the Aire is free.

It was around 30 C in Eastern France yesterday and we just walked Pepper around 21.00 and it was 20 C but thunder now looms. We turned left at Calais whereas you turned right.
We may just meander across at some stage towards the Atlantic coast and tgen north towards Brittany, or maybe not.
As others have said, drink wine and it'll look better.
We're in Alsace BTW.

Montreuil Sur Mer is excellent if the weather is good, I suppose most places are much improved by a bit of sunshine.
We were there a couple of weeks ago and had lovely walks around the ramparts.
Don't give up on it but do give it another try in the future. Just try and choose a nice day.

Richard.

Miss Haversham's what?

On second thoughts don't answer that. :)

Our standing joke is we only drive through Normandy to wash the dead flies off the windscreen, because it's always peeing down up there. Hit the road south.

We've been bimbling about France for the last couple of weeks from the Loire up to Brittany (Vannes) where we are now and apart from two days it has been poo weather all the way. You name it we've had it, and there are no signs it's getting better so make the best of what we have! Everything seems a lot more expensive since last year though.....

Ten years
We have just returned from France, it was my intention to try and keep the miles down for a change. The plan was to tour Brittany and perhaps wander down the west coast to the Rochelle area, but poor weather and a constant cool wind kept us moving south in search of an improvement. Eventually we gave up on the west coast and headed fo the Dordogne where we enjoyed a a few pleasant days. Overall we had a great holiday but too many miles for a two week break.

Long time
We like Montreuil (sur Mer) apparently it was on the coast a long time ago but like Rye (UK) it's now inland. It's a lovely place in the sun and as stated before there's some good walking around the fortifications, try it again sometime!
We've been over now since Sunday and had some brilliant weather up to yesterday PM when we had showers, this morning is grey, warm and damp-drizzly! We're parked, on an Aire, overlooking canal at Monthermie along with 16 others!

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but the last time we ended up being raimed on daily we just gave up and spent a day driving south until we hit sun...

Hi Terry. Thanks for that, but we've changed our minds and are now heading for the Aires at Dinan. Seems as though this trip will more than live up to its title .....;)

Getting better month by month.
During our Easter break we were going to remain in the Eastern side of France around Strasbourg. The weather was dry but bitterly cold winds, so we opted to head South. Made the south coast and what a difference.. Sunshine all week, but as we only had a fortnight, we had to blat it back up the West coast and missed many places, but at least we had the Sun(y) Summer leave we hope to go back to all the places we missed.

After mooching around Germany we have moved into eastern France and had a lucky 25 degrees whilst camping in Annecy for a few days. Today we drove to Lake Geneva and its dropped to 6 degrees!!!. However weekend weather looks good (touches wood). Overall found this side of France an absolute delight.
