many many years! since I was a kid
check your dodgy remote for dry joints first, it may be easily repairable

you may have problems finding the remote code but you could try an 'all in one' tv remote.

to check if the IR is functioning just point the remote at a mobile phones camera...if its working you will see the IR 'bulb' flashing/lit in the phone's screen. (most phones dont have an IR filter)
if it is working it may be the IR receiver is knackered or the codes have been lost.

no code !!!! i believe some 'all in ones' can be programmed by flashing the existing remote at the 'all in one' but you'll need someone with the maxview remote if yours is cabbaged.

Yup, the box's are actually the same as the cheap kits available from Aldis and the like..

BUT !!!

the most common problem with remote controls is the transmitting LED breaks away from the circuit board.
Take it apart, and gently rock the LED .. it should not move at all ( unless it has quite long leads which will flex ) A quick dab with a soldering iron on both connections should sort it out for you..

As a by the by, you can check the remote quite easily with either a digital camera of even a mobile fone that has a camera

Turn your camera on. Point the remote at it

In the view finder you will actually see the infrared LED blinking away IF it is working :thumb:

Most of these type of receivers are all via Comag in Germany..
So look for replacements to the Aldi / Lidl / silvercrest / Maplin branded receivers..
Also as suggested the all in one / universal remotes may do the job..
EVEN poundland could be worth a try !!!

OR.. get one that "learns" borrow an original remote off a fellow motorhomer and program it.
