Several people have asked (one way or another) in the main Malvern Show thread if there is to be some sort of Funster get together with eating and drinking. Please can we have an answer from one of the marshalls. Need to know whether to buy ingredients on the way or not, and my shopping will be done at big Tesco in Oxford on Monday morning. Thank you.

Hi Guys, we have 319 Funsters attending, no way will be able to get them all under cover, so any gathering we do organise will be weather dependent. I'm giving it some thought and will post the rally welcome letter here later today.

Cheers:thumb:

There is bound to be something happening at sometime during any meet, whether it is organised by the rally marshalls or whether it just happens.

As an example, last year Geri arranged a birthday cake afternoon for Ray's birthday. This extended into an evening party with music from Janine and Barry and bbq, all totally unplanned but an excellent evening that I will always fondly remember. On other evenings last year some people went to the marquee/tent in the evening, others gathered round various motorhomes, some went to the evening entertainment and some just enjoyed their own company.

So my personal advice to anyone worried about shopping or what to buy is DONT WORRY.
There is usually a coach into town on at least two days so a trip to the supermarket can always be made on the friday or saturday if anyone is running out of supplies.

If you want to pack an extra box of burgers or cakes, can of soup, rolls, salad or something to share no matter what it is, go for it but buy something that you will eat that can be used another time just in case it rains every day.

The alcohol/drink bit is easy. Bring a little more than usual and you can always take it away with you.

No one needs to buy anything they dont eat or drink themselves and no one needs to buy extra.

The wonderful thing about fun is that everyone can join in or not, there is no pressure and whatever happens often just happens without any pre planning.

Hope this is helpful and will ease any worries until the Marshalls reply

Just seen Jim's reply - What about a Pimms mix competition afternoon Jim????? hehehehe

Im having a BBQ at mine, there's a few coming round, there's a few that might pop round, there's people I don't know yet who might come round, Im sure someone elses is having a BBQ with the same philosophy,

Just make sure you have packed enough beer, and food it will get eaten at some point.

Much of course might depend on the weather, Might be sat in my van talking to my wife the whole weekend, who knows,
All I do know is that following Malvern, I will be watching MOTD and seeing the mighty Palace back where they belong, getting some sleep before nipping of for a few weeks to the USA and Canada oh and then flying back picking up my runnng kit and flying back out to France for a marathon.....
Ain't life great.........

My only plan is to have some fun ::bigsmile:riving2::imoutahere::wooo::wooo::party2::party2:

no :dm: fans though, I aim to be in a good mood :thumb::yeah::yeah:

and thats how it should be.....

while there is no obligation to attend any form of gathering at a fun meet/rally, it is becoming too organised with communal BBQ's etc.

no offence to the funster involved, and a good friend too, but the last rally i went to i was asked why i wasnt eating....then told to go get a plate.

i politely refused and said i already ate in the motorhome earlier but that didnt seem to matter.

I miss the days when we had a few beers as a group and if you wanted to eat, then bring something for yourself....but not as it is now with a mass cook-in.

I can see it from both angles.
For a newby it would be good if there was something larger organised, knowing that they can bring a plate if food to a supper and just join in would be a nice icebreaker, it could also on the other hand be offputting.

But then again sometimes if people are having smaller gatherings it might feel like they would be imposing or not invited, and end up sitting in their own van for the evening when they would like to have been socialising. On the other hand it should be that if you dont want to socialise or eat in a group it not compulsory.

Quite true Pat, but I hope those next to me are prepared for me!!!!! I might just drag them out and force them to have fun.....If they don't complain about being kept up late, I promise I won't complain if they wake me up early..:winky:

Ok, it seems that most people have managed to turn my original request into a denunciation of planning ahead.

I don't want to buy fresh ingredients to make a fair number of delicacies such as Lemon Cheesecake Tartlets if there is not going to be some sort of get-together. I fulltime, I have limited space in the fridge, I do not want to spend my time at Malvern dragging off on a bus to get ingredients. Hence my request.

Maz certainly my reply was not meant in that way, but replies are read by many new people perhaps attending Malvern for the first time hence commenting on the bus into town etc.

I have always enjoyed tasting the delicacies you, Jane and others have made especially as I was not gifted with the talent for cooking cakes etc so I appreciate more the time and effort put into such creations, but I now have visions of you slaving over the cooker for hours instead of having fun with the funsters and that bothers me.

Lets hope the weather is good, Jim has posted the Malvern letter here

Well it looks like we are having both now, weather permitting. Cheese and wine easy to buy for, need to think of something for the supper though. Did pizzas at Wrenbury, put them on the table, turned around to get our plates and they were gone!!

Your idea sounds delicious Maz.
