Bought this on Monday at Makro Ipswich, .. see photos....

Looks like it's been defrosted, half the contents ran out , then refrozen..

I would take it back but it is a 45ml round trip.. cost more in petrol than it's worth .. so have emailed the details and pictures to Makro customer services, not for a refund but to inform them as they may have more in the freezer and it's a potential food poisoning hazard.

something to watch out for no matter where you buy

You're not having a lot of luck these days, what with the beans and all, are you Jim?

Hopefully customer services will respond positively but, if not:

I'm on a roll Graham.... if it's not up to scratch.. I complain..

Brits don't complain enough about shoddy goods and services..

having spend some years in both the food and beverage industries we welcomed customer comments , good and bad.. some of course were chancers looking for freebies..

EDIT

I tried to forward my email to that address Graham but it came back

that's a bit of a sweeping statement which I can't contest as it's an opinion .

we don't buy a lot there,. but what we do buy is generally of good quality.. especially the meat and fish.

We don't use because it's cheaper.. some items cannot be bought in supermarkets..

for example.. 16kg bag of bread floor

However .. in my opinion it has gone downhill a bit since taken over by Bookers..

.. they also give a free cup of coffee.. now how can you resist that ? :roflmto:

Not so sure about all the food but you're not wrong on prices! We shopped at the first Makro that opened at Charlton in the 70's and soon found we could buy the same thing cheaper at Tesco's. We use the Norwich branch occasionally now but only for specific things and we study the offers before we go.

Edit: Jim beat me to it but I didn't know Bookers had taken it over, that explains a few things.

Jill used to have a Makro card when she was working but we didn't go all that often. We found the same as Rob & Jim. Some items difficult to find elsewhere but prices not always as keen as they first look.

Can't say I actually miss going these days

I also use it for buying in bulk for Scouting activities...

if you are looking for cheap, then best off going to Aldi / Lidl

Since being bookerised they have dropped hundreds of lines... sports goods, clothing, electronics, white and brown goods are now gone.. home furnishings is also on the way down.

I do like the kitchen / chefs supplies section.. I buy all my kitchen tools , pans , etc .. much better than domestic items ..

We realised pretty quickly that such was the case. Makro seemed to be designed at least as much with the small business market in mind, maybe with domestic tagged on as small business owners also have homes.

Exactly.... Makro / Booker are a cash and carry.. not a big Lidl.. :roflmto:

and as you know.. you need to be a business owner or have a company Makro card to use.

I've had mine since early 80s when I had a hairdressing business .. just never gave it back ..

Just some of the goods we buy in Makro

All fresh meat, poultry and fish.. it's very good quality and good value.. in particular I buy pork loin and or belly for sausage making.. great price.. fresh fish is also excellent.

As mentioned..16KG bag of bread / Pizza flour

Tinned tomatoes by the tray.. we use a lot.

Herbs & Spices.. commercial size tubs/packets at great prices.

Mayo.. to make my own coleslaw

Coffee beans by Rioba.. 1kg bags ..good price and good coffee .

Large Tabasco sauce.. not available in supermarkets

Large jars of pickles

Cheese.. 1.5kg Vintage cheddar for £8.00 = £5.30 per kg

Butter.. if on offer

Olive oil .. if on offer

Bacon bits.. 1.5kg, I forget price but it's cheapish

Black pudding by the roll ..mmmmmmm

Ice cream.. what started this thread :roflmto:

Frozen cakes for special occasions.

Not particularly keen on Makro fresh fruit and veg.. but they do some good deals, so worth looking at

I'm sure there is a lot more.. but you get the idea.. it's not to replace a regular supermarket shop.. it's a supplementary shop for stuff we prefer or can't buy elsewhere.

It's one thing not to criticise spelling on a forum like this but I should have thought a customer service department would make sure it got things right

Good luck Jim

We love Costco. You need to buy some pretty big quantities to get good value, but the quality is generally excellent and if you are holding a party they do ready made trays of sandwiches, pizzas, cakes etc that are superb.

Our business card was cancelled for some reason 3 or 4 years after we retired, perhaps because we hadn't used it in 12 months, never did get an answer. We are now "buyers" on a friends card. Anyone can shop online without a card, free delivery over £50/60 I think but not all offers are the same as in store.

well spotted ...

Writing standards have definitely fallen since the introduction of spell checkers.. which by their very nature can't know when you have spelled a word correctly but used the wrong word.

predictive text also has a lot to answer for ..
