Upton on Severn allows overnighting in the Hanley road car park, costs about £2 for the night I think

You could try Briarfields at Cheltenham - about 5 mins off M5 and £15 per night - superb site with good facilities.

You can stop on the services but you have to pay some saft amount like 15 quid to park amonget the lorries and be kept up all night.

Come off the M5 at wellington and park on the caravan club sitre 5 mins from motorway. Walk into wellington town in 10 mins

book first though

Used to do that every year when i was married (boo hoo)

The Gloucester Old Spot is right on junction 10 of M5 But no exit northbound at junction (you can join northbound) so you would need to leave at junction 11, take the A38 towards Tewkesbury and turn right at traffic lights by the Swan Inn at Coombe Hill. The Old Spot is on the left in just under a mile. Nice pub though.

Given that the OP said
may not get to Brent knoll till 10 o clock
I don't think he would be welcomed with open arms at many of the pubs or campsites suggested that are north of Gloucester.

You could stop at Home Farm caravan site- just off the Burnham on sea junction. About £12 per night.
Ring them up and they will leave the barrier card in the bar. Bar closes about 0100 am

Sorry to hijack your post but the easiest way, if traffic permits, is to come off at junction 10 and head towards Cheltenham. Immediately you join the A4019 get in the right hand lane and u-turn back across the motorway. The GOS is just along the road, turn right by the pub and their car park is around the back. I have performed that manoeuvre many times.

You can overnight on the Esplanade at Portishead, ie the sea front, free of charge. Its about 3 mile from M5 and very easy to find.
We have stayed there and the views in the morning over the Severn estuary are amazing!!!

Yep, I think that's been commented on before. It's not like any services we've been to before, very swish:)

The OP is heading north from Cornwall to Chester. There is no northbound exit at junction 10. You can do as you say southbound.
I only live a few miles away and have used this junction many times. I am sure sat-nav will save any problems.

Greenway. Of course you are correct. Adrian is heading north. I was so busy thinking of how to get from junction 10 to the Gloucester Old Spot I had misread his original question. My apologies. He could, of course come off at junction 9 and go through Tewkesbury to the Gloucester Road car park by Marquis Motorhomes. I think they still allow overnight parking without restrictions.
