To park your car in a carpark these days can cost a fortune, on-street parking is a no-no as many have permit parking only, round our way if they can use land as a temporary carpark to gather more dosh from our ever decreasing pockets they will, it seems everyone wants a piece of the action; councils; clampers; private land owners; Hospitals; the list goes on and on but it occurred to me the one place you do get to park for free is the M25! see not all bad!! :tounge:

This is one thing we definitely don't miss from when we lived in the south-east. Everything is more relaxed up here - motorhome parked on the road outside the house, hospital parking is free (good job as I have had numerous appointments this year), traffic jams are not normally more than four or five vehicles, no motorways (nearest dual carriageway is over 40 miles away).

Experience of travelling round the M25 very slowly are a dim and distant memory.

Bliss :)

And yet - we drove round the M25 yesterday, late morning-ish at a steady 90 - 95 kph. I have to admit there has a first time for everything.

Pilote87.... Luck, pure luck.
Let's be honest it's not always bad, Friday evenings it can be a carpark but Saturday mornings it can flow perfectly, so long as there are no roadworks.

Best thing about the M25 was what it did to Surrey house prices on its completion in 1986. Our first barely affordable flat doubled in value between 1985 and 1988.

We took full advantage, moved oop north and bought Lancashire with the proceeds.

Well alright then, I exaggerate somewhat - a 3 bed semi.

Best time from A243 (J 9) to M1, 35min, worst 3.5 hours.
Looking forward to seeing the M25 this afternoon, it means I'm almost home, been doing a couple of days of contract work in Sunderland, don't like that four letter word.

Coming back from Dover Wed (by car) we came round M25 at about 4pm and had no problems and a steady 60mph :)
Garmin 760 detected a hold up on M5 and offered us a detour on M49 which we tried and it worked perfectly.
At Calais no signs of migrant problems at all-in general a totally trouble-free few days (y)
