The M2 has been shut after a serious crash between two cars and a van this morning.
An air ambulance has landed after the smash at about 7.30am, leading to long delays for commuters.
It happened on the London-bound stretch of the motorway between J4 (Gillingham) and J3 (Chatham).
The coast-bound carriageway was also closed at about 8.30am for the air ambulance to land.
A witness spotted three ambulances at the scene and said the air ambulance landed in a nearby field.
Congestion on the M2 was stretching back to J5 for the A249 at Sittingbourne.
Kent Highways said long delays were expected and urged drivers to avoid the area.
