Hi John.

Mine's a Tartarini.

Just waiting for a brand new Edelbrock Carb and New Electronic distributor before I get mine set up.:thumb:

I have noticed they are mainly Impco if converted in the States. Was yours converted Stateside Olley?

Nearly bought an IMPCO complete lpg conversion, but this was a full conversion involving the removal of the carb and no bi-fuel switching.

Good kit though.

lpg+pic+2.jpg (image)

is mine...

seems a tiny gap for air to come through and mix with gas, when switched to LPG..

also there is a (manifold) vacuum switch that seems to be wired backwards, this controls vac to mixer..

supposed to be full vac to mixer on petrol, allowing the mixer plate to rise and open completely = full air into engine and then on LPG the vac should be cut off, allowing a much smaller amount of air in..

getting my head around it :)

maybe more to follow..

Hi AD no it was converted by Logical near Northampton, got ripped off, didn't research it enough at the time, all fuel injection engines should be multipoint, but by fitting a gas carb he saved money. Still live and learn.

Hi John I believe that RPI that Alan mentions are at Horsford near Norwich. There is also another good firm in the area who converted my Hurricane a couple of years ago, they are JAYMIC at Cromer.

dunno ;) its much harder trying to look into the carb while its fitted, very tough.. (I keep checking me butterflies are behaving):ROFLMAO:

spoke to my lpg chap and he confirmed a question I had about manifold vacuum controlling airflow into the mixer... so should be able to sort that,..

thanks for pics Ginge, yet again a different set up. :)

Hi John I had that problem, turned out to to be the relay, we managed to get to a lay-by just of the M25 as we had almost run out of LPG and called the RAC, one of the first things the guy thought of, I also phoned Logical who did the conversion while waiting for the RAC and he suggested the same thing, RAC man didn't have a spare but he shorted two of the terminals out and it ran ::bigsmile:

The RAC man reckoned the problem was that logical had mounted the relay on top of the engine, so the vibration killed it, I moved it to the firewall after we got back home, a new relay from Lucas was only a few quid, and its been fine ever since.

thanks Olley but this is just plain odd..

drove to newforest and back with no problems.. just as I got home the van 'ran-on' for the first time ever..

I paid no heed, and set about making some changes to help with aspects of the ignition, including new diz cap, rotor, plugs, and tested HT leads.. (all was fine with this, I just had new bits)

I fitted a vacuum break which helps stop the carb bogging during WOT

thats all..

its never ran since :(

IT does fire, for a rev or two then dies....

there is fuel everywhere so it seems to be running rich..

there is a spark at plugs

carb came off last night due to suspected float issues, none found, a rebuild has made no difference..

the battery doesnt seem to be as effective as it always has.. soon discharges.. only started happening in last couple of weeks..

at a loss really

will go home tonight and throw the strobe on a lead to make sure the spark remains even after the engine stalls..

have chekced fuel supply, all seems fine.. by passed the fuel cut off relay too..

will do a comp test agian but doesnt explain why she seems to run well for a few seconds and then give up...

hmmm annoying :)

sounds like an air leek somewhere check all the joints on the manifold to the exaust where they join at the down pipes and also sounds like timeing out a touch the gas systym may have 3 settings on also and if not on the correct one will try to run on both fuels hence too rich or poss choke sticking on on petrol

failing main ignition coil :( the sparks fly for a bit then dry up, never seen out lilke it.. explains everything....

coil is hot and resistance is wrong, expect it to be ok again in 30 mins when its cooled down..

there is a chevy place in a village near here, bizarrely.. will ring them and see if they have something knocking about :)

LPG Conversion on Chevy 7.4 Vortec

Hi, I've had several quotes for an LPG conversion and I'm being offered different systems. All are multipoint (grateful for the comments on the carb conversions described here) and I wondered if anybody had any views on whether one was better than others; is there one to avoid? So far I have been quoted for Romano, BRC, Prins, and OMVL. Whilst money is an overriding factor I don' want to make the decision on price alone. I don't want to save £500 and end up with a problem that could cost a lot more to put right.
Any other coments / recommendations on lpg conversions would be greatly appreciated.
