Losing Search Bar on I pad and I phone (1 Viewer)

I wonder if anyone has come across this before. I went to type a search into Google on my I pad and the search bar disappeared - replaced by the home page full of Apps. Continued all day and is the same on my I phone. Favourites and bookmarks still load OK. Obviously cannot do a search for a solution because I can't type anything in. All thoughts gratefully received.

Go to settings
Select safari
Turn off safari suggestions.

They claim it is fixed now but may take some time to propagate to all users

I have the same, seemed to start today on my iPad Air2. Everytime I tried to type in the Safari address bar, Safari closed down. Google seems to work ok.
So, big thanks to Phase3begins, I tried your suggestion and it seems to be fine now.

Got exactly same problem must of been the poxy update, I'll try the fix
