Getting there!
Ben using Blackvue wireless in both car and van for a while now. Both been very good and 100% reliable.

Depends what you want really. Some people prefer a screen. Cost is obviously a consideration. Have had experience with VicoVation cameras but this wasn't too good.

Get a Go-Pro. you can use it as a dash-cam, a video recorder, a camera for taking wonderful wide angle pictures, go in the sea with it and best of all take star trails like this.

Very happy with my Nextbase from Costco but it was pricey at £100. However it was complete with micro sd card. It also has gps function which is important to show location and speed.

Well not got one for the motorhome yet but in both our cars we have one from Ebay cost £9 loops on an SD card (micro ) of any size up to 32GB which is quite large enough and is IR and HD so works day and night

Just bought a next base 312GW it has Gps and WiFi and infra red night cam.
Just plugged it in to do the initial 2hr charge and it switches on "ready to use" so no fiddling.
Also has an emergency part that ring fences the 30 mins around the collision that caused it.
Comes with a suction cup etc. (which the Curries one didn't )
160 deg camera vision, seems very good.
Mitch.

I have a Garmin Nuvi sat nav with built in dash cam in the car and Mrs A has a MiVue Mio. In the van we have a Roadhawk HD. Video from the Roadhawk is absolutelty superb day and night, the Mio is also very good but the Nuvi is just ok. You can't always read number plates on the playback even in good light and details become a little smeared sometimes.
All 3 have Gps so you can watch the video and follow your route on google maps
Although I agree the GoPro us a brilliant camera, I think only the latest Hero5 has Gps.

Ok seeing as your almost pursueded
I dont boast or recommend much as a rule because opinions and perceived value differ so much.
I have had the £9 the £19 and the £39 versions
curiosity got the better of me and I spent £109
there is about a £100 worth of difference trust me, hence my comments
The nextbase 412 with magnetic base and wifi download to phone/Tablet , or plug in camera direct to pc or remove sd card, has its own app /software for viewing
no wires to disconnect to remove camera just slide off magnetic base
get extra wiring /mount kits for your other vehicles and its a 3 second job to swap over
the best yet, no fiddly wires to the camera the bestest of the bestest best yet
Link Removed
Check out the halfords £30 permrnant install deal as im sure it includes a hidden cig lighter socket tucked behind the dash thats alone is worth £10

Since April 1846 but have always camped.
I have the nextbase 402g and it is very good. HOWEVER had an incident yesterday and needed to review one of the clips. Went to the end of the first clip and couldn't see it so went to the next clip and it wasn't there either. Checked the times between them and there was 10 seconds missing! Quite vital eh! Contacted Nextbase and they were very helpful and suggested that the memory card was too slow (32gb 30mbs transfer rate) so have ordered a Scandisk Ultra 32gb 80mbs cat 10. It arrives tomorrow and will provide feedback later.

I have a Mio MiVue in the car, which I transferred from the MHome when I sold it and the quality is excellent. I have only once had to download the footage and was easily able to read the registration number of an approaching van, which was required for the police.

A friend fitted a cheaper camera to his own car and wasn't able to read registration numbers on freeze frame due to the poorer quality image.

If you just want an overview of the road and be able to show your insurer, or the authorities that a collision was not your fault, then cheaper systems are fine, but if you ever need to be able to identify a registration number, not all of the cheaper systems are good enough quality, especially in poor light.

Whatever you buy, make sure the video quality is good enough to use as evidence of whatever happens. Afterall, there's no point spending money on a dash cam that you can't use as it's intended.
I bought a dashcam from Jaws a while ago, and while there is no doubt they are very good for the price, I couldn't view the video from it on a Mac.

Almost a Newbie but not quite now.
Have had one of these: Link Removed in MOHO for a couple of years now and no problems. 32gb card overwrites. Only use for forward use but HD clarity, sound and GPS so speed etc. even has mapping available so pinpoint and follow map on laptop. All this for only £23. Clever people these Chinese.
