After an afternoon trip to Intermarche for supplies I decided to have a quick visit to my little bit of land in Central Portugal.

How things grow!!

Eucalyptus seems to grow really fast but the Hymer went through the entrance.

A quick check of the wells (one dry, one with some water) and I left to have a leisurely drive around the area. I went up a windy road to a dam and then on around in a loop of about 40kms. Great scenery...

Then I came upon this riverside swimming area... with a small bar/restaurant and on the edge of the car park there is a big barby with a sink and running water for use by anyone.

All this just a few kms from the land...

Lots of strimming to do...

Can't wait to get down to it....

JJ

I am too fat and white to swim in a public pool folks...

If I lie down in the sun with my top off they think I am a stranded white whale and keep rolling me back into the water...

JJ

Think you'll need them there Australian Drop Bears, not goats, to eat the gum trees, Bruce!!!

Do they (eucalyptus trees) fall over as suddenly in Portugal as they do in Oz? They are very shallow rooted despite their height and spread so they are notoriously unstable. People there don't really like em close to their houses if it's humanly possible to avoid it (which often, it isn't!) because of both that and the fire risk. There was a 60/70 ft one in a garden 2 doors away from us - grew that high in about 12 years and of course the spread was the same. Used to terrify me when it was windy. Would have blown straight on top of our bungalow if it had gone. They had it cut down professionally, last year (I think it was) I'm pleased to say. Took the bloke 2 whole days! I hate em with a vengeance LOL
