Didnt know about it, and to be quite honest, doing it during school holidays doesnt attract motorhomers, many of whom will be away.

I suppose Yodeli and I could have a peak whilst we are in London - then again perhaps going to London that day may not be the most sensible thing to do?

Unless I have read it wrong its only real concern is the local small businessess..which could theoretically push higher costs onto us??

IMHO it's better just to boycott London ...if Boris wants it to himself and his cronies then he can have it...give me green hills etc every time..

No theory about it.

The businesses which are affected from next year have had more than 5 years notice of what is happening. Unlike motorhomers, who often do relatively low mileages and keep their vehicles for many years, most of the businesses affected will change their vehicles within a 5 year period because of high mileages covered.

Just like the haulier-led fuel duty protests this is a campaign to make the taxpayer in general fund expenses faced by some businesses.

Will these emissions zone not affect the resale price of diesel motorhomes built before 2002?

As well as those who use the Dartford Tunnel to reach the channel ports?

Personally I don't think protests like this ever do much good, the decision has already been taken and the blame has been placed on the EU.
Game over.

I think you will find that this protest has been organised by SMALL business people. Like the solo plumber or electrician, not by big business.

Many people only realised they were affected by the LEZ when the letter dropped through the door a few months ago.

Our van is not compliant (even though it would be if it were under 3500) However my son had a little Toyota work van and he also recieved the letter. He was devastated he had just bought it - It has now gone

Also a lot of people with Landrovers and other Ultility vehicles received the same letter. Remember it is not only Big Hauliers that are affected. Many of these small business people cannot afford to change their vehicles.

I do agree through that the decision has been taken and will not be reversed.

However watch out people London today who knows it could be you tomorrow.

We have been fighting this for such a long time so they wont get anywhere --Their mind is made up.
But in Germany a M/H over 3500 is still classed the same as a M/H under 3500 as Light Goods Vehicle not so here they are classed as heavy Goods and as such are not compliant. (I have a lawyer working with me now to use this as a loophole but!!!)
So it is not only for 2002 vehicles it has gone by weight and 2006 vehicles have come into it.
Please check

Use both reg no and by type of vehicle

if you dont comply and you need to come to London conversion kits are being produced

my escort van, complient
1992 discovery on numberplate check complient however on vehicle type check non complient. Damn stupid setup if you ask me. As any checks would be on numberplate recognition should be ok if one were of a mind to risk it.
It I lived closer I'd join the protest. Londons streets should be gridlocked for several days. Making residents change vehicles to stay complient is so unreal it is beyond belief. Talk about being forced to keep up with the Johnstones'

Transport for London will introduce new rules regarding vehicle emmissions on 3rd January 2012. This will affect certain vehicles including motorhomes. A daily charge of between £100 and £200 will be payable on non compliant vehicles. Between 2500kg and 3500kg pay £100 and vehicles over 3500kg will have to pay £200 per day to drive in London.

Currently most major cities in Germany have already in place a Low Emmission Zone (Umweltzone). If your motorhome is compliant with the London restrictions, your certificate will make it a simple task to register your vehicle for the German Umweltzone and other Low Emmission Zones in Europe.

London is just the first of many UK cities who are considering Low Emission Zones to follow the European directive including Manchester and Edinburgh.

Who will be affected?

Motorhome owners with motorhomes over 2.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight will need to check if they need to take action. Check if your motorhome is compliant at the Transport For London website using your vehicle registration number click here (opens in another window)

The main groups of motorhome owners who will be affected are as follows:

Those who live in London and store them in London

People who take their motorhomes to exhibitions shows for accomodation e.g. Earls court

Tourists and those who wish to visit the main campsites in London

How we can help

We at Tomsett Kent are working in conjunction with Clean Diesel Technologies to obtain certification from Transport For London(TFL) to fit diesel particulate filters to existing motorhomes to bring them up to compliance. This works by installing a diesel particulate filter in the exhaust system as close to the engine as possible, lowering the emissions of the vehicle.

We can supply, fit and certify a diesel particulate filter and then arrange for your motorhome to be registered with Transport For London. Once installed, most filters will operate for several years without maintenance subject to use; only cleaning of the filter may be necessary. However your motorhome will need to be certified annually which could be carried out at the same time as you MOT.

How much will it cost?

The product kit will cost around £1370 + VAT and the labour approximately £300 plus VAT. Price based on a FIAT Ducato/Peugeot boxer base vehicle.

For More Information about the Low Emmission Zone and your motorhome call us on 01795 841007 (ask for Dave) or drop us an email to lez@tomsettkent.com
