We quite fancy a couple of days in the London area a little closer to Christmas to see the lights and generally wander around.

Any suggestions re the best campsite on the north side of London with easy tube/bus access into town? We'll be driving down the M1.

Lee Valley.

Just spent 4 nights in October there. Bus stops virtually outside the campsite to Edmunton Green. Then train to Seven Sisters and tube into Oxford Circus. £8 for a travel card.

Campsite lovely with very helpful wardens.:thumb:

Edmonton green is within the LEZ and that will cost a bomb every day if not compliant. Sewardstone is on the east side of the river lea navigation, and is outside the zone.

Hi.
I have stayed at the CC. site at Hemel Hempstead. Just off the M1,before the M10,although the motorway is nearby, you cannot hear any traffic.
CAUTION,when you come off the M1 you are on a dual car/way,the site is up a lane on the other side of this as you head towards Hemel,go to the next island and turn back towards the M1.There is a garage/filling station on your left, proceed slowly, because the lane is on the far boundary of the filling station on your left.
It sounds a bit daunting, but after you have got onto the site, the next time is easy peasy. Great dog walks in field across the lane, and up the lane.Trains from a station just down the road + Tesco i think,1 island away, but it was a while ago.

Abbey Wood Caravan Club Site is a Caravan Club Golden Jubilee Site and feels positively rural when you reach this gently sloping verdant site. Its mature tree screening and spacious grounds making it a secure site. Good railway connections are within walking distance of the caravan site and will get you into Central London in just 35 minutes. Alternatively, nearby Greenwich offers its own blend of fascinating attractions, including the famous observatory.

River cruises operate from nearby Abbey Wood Caravan Club Site between Greenwich, Tower Bridge, Westminster, Kew, Richmond and Hampton Court. Open all year, this is a busy caravan site and is very popular with European visitors during the summer months. There are good reasons to visit Abbey Wood throughout the year though. The Christmas Lights, shopping at the January Sales, the London Marathon, Excel Centre and the Chelsea Flower show can all be enjoyed from this scenic, yet well placed, site.

Please note: this site is situated within the London Low Emission Zone. Visit Link Removed for more information. Also, the distances to public transport have been amended since the 2013/14 Sites Directory and Handbook was issued.
