Ramblers and wild campers that wish to camp in the NP will now have to pay for he privilege.

They blame wild campers for leaving a mess and ruining the beauty of the loch sides and surrounding areas. ???

Makes sense , only because you'll aways get the few knobheads spoiling it for the rest of the decent campers & ramblers who clean up after themselves.

There have been plenty of reports, including photos, of the damage and mess left behind by freeloaders.

Are we referring to backpackers Bobby or Wildcampers as in Mhs and caravans? I wouldn't mind paying so long as its not stupid money.

@Bobby22 Here's the original story from nearly 2 years ago.

If you look at the pictures you can understand why they've felt the need to take action.

@NickNic i am quoting from this evenings Scottish news.

@irnbru yes they were referring to backpackers and ramblers or anyone that wished to camp anywhere in the National Park.......not only Loch Lomondside.

What NickNic was quoting was old hat on a ban.........this is new and it is just revenue collection for anyone wishing to wild camp .

Since they made this np all they have done is create a money gathering scheme. They use all sorts to justify why they want to charge.

Loch Lomond was always beautiful without them building artificial visitor attractions.

As for the mess, every local authority in Britain gets it.

Edit......they are also going to force wild campers into designated camping areas.

Yes, mess occurs throughout the country and that is why legislation is brought in to control it. The big ones as far as camping is concerned are the Public Health Act 1937 and the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 - 80 odd years of recognition that (despite how responsible some individuals are) the camping population in general can't be trusted if left to their own devices.

In parallel we have had, for about the same length of time, the demand for access to the countryside which resulted 65 years ago in the creation of national parks to try to ensure that the countryside can be enjoyed by all, not just campers, and further recognition that similar controls are required to curb irresponsibility by some to achieve that.

Not ideal but, like so much of life, unfortunately necessary.

Yes, and when they do they bring in measures to try and prevent it happening.

Why should this one be any different?

It's makes perfect sense. The abuse/mess is down to freeloaders so by charging to camp they will deter the majority of the people causing the problem from going there.
