I personally thought the first post in this thread is very insensitive to disabled motorhomers.we have met many over the last 20yrs and great peeps they have all been, some quite inspirational.so I think they deserve our patience and respect.come on guys cut um some slack,we could end up on a scooter one day(y)

....................And you hate ice cream as well???

no I don't, and as for my answer to the question it was merely a tongue in cheek statement based on some of the things people have been saying, although in many cases it would appear to be true,

Tell you what, BB, I'm a little disgusted, and not about the dog issue, (which is bad enough). You, like me, have seen many friends end up disabled, both in mind, and body. They got that way by fighting bl**dy hard to protect the same people who later approach them asking how and why their disabled!
They never play on their disabilities, in fact, the guys I know never mention it, however, they do deserve something for their sacrifice, and years of pain....RESPECT. It costs nothing.

With you all the way with that sentiment. Respect, but not in my time or in my back yard it is then.:sneaky:

Then I apologise to you. However, it might be a good thing to add a 'smiley' when answering 'tongue in cheek', as a comment such as that in a thread can easily be misconstrued. (y)(y)

Very true and I very much doubt if any genuine disabled person would not get the respect they deserved by anyone on the forum, it does to many though seem as if a lot of people using these scooters etc around public places are far from disabled and will soon jump off them if there is a bargain to be had in fact for a few years around here the scooters were being marketed as car boot scooters with many riders merely using them as a means to barge their way around with little or no consideration or respect for others it is these types that give them a bad name.

A motorhome enables the disabled to travel when the alternative might be to be stuck at home. They can carry everything they need, scooter, medical aids, toilet somewhere to rest or stay

Pet owners can travel with their pets, enjoy their company knowing that they haven't had to put them in kennels. I am sure the pets also enjoy being with their owners.

Are there better reasons to buy a motorhome ?

Maybe to give the dogs a change of scene? We don't take ours round as a rule but our little Tazzy loves to say hello to people and other dogs occasionally (it's good socialisation for her) but not for more than an hour later in the day when it's quieter, the other two are more than happy to slob out in our camper!

We went back for lunch and afterwards took the dogs for a good romp round the edge of the field (yes we did clean up the doo-doo), but then Tazzy refused point blank to go back in ... after chasing her round and round the vans, much to the bemusement of others sitting out having their lunch, I finally managed to collar her with the aid of another MHer who fussed her to keep her still. Once back in the van those big pleading eyes were staring up at me ... she was telepathically saying "take me with you" so we did ... and she really enjoyed herself. Needless to say she was on a normal short type lead!

We did see some people with dogs in buggies (poorly or old ones) and the chap with the large wooden trailer with his dogs in ... don't quite understand that as it must've been a pain to take round!

Does this summarise part of the problem? Owners who believe that an out-of-control dog or scooter is OK so long as it belongs to them!

If you're going to try to make a point at least have the decency to quote the WHOLE of my post so it is in context! I don't think that out of control dogs are okay at ANY time but Tazzy wasn't 'out of control' instead she was playing - if you have dogs you would KNOW the difference! She was enjoying playing 'chase me' and as it was amusing others and her so I let her carry on as it is a 'favourite' game of hers, however had I been 'authoritative' with her she would have stopped immediately as she knows when NO means NO, more than a lot of adults and/or kids do! Had there been any possibly of causing an 'issue' for anyone she wouldn't have been taken back to the van off her lead anyway. Sometimes you have to have a bit of unexpected 'fun' and this was hers - I'm certainly not going to stop it because it gives you the hump!

As you appear to be so concerned I thought I'd put on some picture of Tazzy so you can ensure you keep well away from my 'out of control' dog in the future ... in case she 'threatens' to comes over to you to give you a manic fussing because she loves people (she's more 'accepting' of some than I would be!).

I don't think anyone is criticising disabled people per se as there are disabled and able bodied people who use scooters who ARE inconsiderate ... that is a fact (just as there are people who do NOT use scooters who are also inconsiderate!). We've nearly been run down on several occasions by people with scooters and its about time that something was done to ensure that anyone with them knows how to use them safely, some of them can go at quite a speed and could easily cause serious injury, both to themselves and others. If, instead of scooters, they were riding electric bikes I'm sure the discussion would be different, despite the fact that some disabled people prefer these to scooters, it wouldn't be acceptable for electric bikers to go at a fast pace in crowded places so it shouldn't be accepted for a scooter user to do so either. Its about consideration really, we should all give consideration to disabled people to ensure we don't cause problems, but they in turn should have consideration for able bodied people too and this, unfortunately, can be lacking as I've witnessed myself on many occasions.

On the subject of dogs, we are not constantly at the beck and call of our dogs, we just take care of them - we wanted to have them and therefore that choice comes with responsibilities which we totally accept, just like you with your kids. No one is forcing you to have a dog so it's not an issue for you.

I think I will bring my parrot next time. not only does he bite. but he is very noisy first thing in the morning. this will give something new for people to moan about.
How about a couple of very smelly and extremely bitey ferrets? ;)

To be fair, there are many scooter users and dog owners who are considerate to others.

These, unfortunately don't get peoples' backs up, so don't get discussed.
The ones who do get the flak (and there are many) are those with the "I'm old / disabled / got kids, etc, so you should get out of my way" attitude.
Dog owners, likewise, don't cause a problem generally.

Those who think the dog is a person, who think everyone else should tolerate the shit they don't pick up and the yapping and dogs running wild are likewise a pain in the arse.
That's the owners as well as the dogs.
This doesn't apply to all owners, by any stretch of the imagination.

That, I think is what this thread is about, inconsiderate people.
As has been said, inconsiderate behaviour isn't limited to the above.
There are non dog owning able bodied people who are just as guilty.

It boils down to arrogance and basic bad manners?

Ferrets...there's a thought.....

How about indulging in the good old Lancashire sport of Ferret Throwing at meets?
In its day, this sport was almost as popular as Leper Throttling.

I understand both are still pub games in St Helens and Wigan?

The newest pub game in Wigan is injecting Ecstasy into the mouth - It's called E by Gum
