At the age of 70, you need to apply for a C1 and a take a medical. Thats it, apart from forking out some cash to pay your doctor. I am assuming that for medical reasons you cannot do these things. Carrying less water could help, or how about pulling a trailer, could this get around the axle weight problem?

sorry to hear your issues tintin, but what a nonsense of a law, so you cant drive this one, but change it for one weighing slightly less and nobody is scared of the consequences anymore

not having a pop at you tintin, just the system, if you are still fit to drive anything, what difference is 500kg going to make

I don't know how you'll get your weight down ... if it's like the one in the below link its built as standard as a 4000kg vehicle with 790kg payload, so even if you COULD jettison some stuff to get below the magic 3500kg that would only leave an payload of 290kg and with all you've got fitted I don't think you stand a cat in hell's chance! Sorry :( ... I hope you manage to keep your licence but might be worth having a mooch around for a replacement just in case ...

It must be difficult when they are setting standards,,,ok whats 500 kg but if a serious accident occurred the law makers would be pilloried if they did not make safe laws. Safety laws have to be well under the maxim just in case. Not fare if its you but if it was some one else you would probably be screaming for more strict legislation,,BUSBY,,

But you're overlooking the fact a C1 entitles you to drive up to 7500kg.
I agree, 500kg less wouldn't make much difference in an accident but a 7500kg vehicle would.
Once you have that C1 they can't stop you driving what you want, within that category.
They have to draw a line somewhere.

Exactly .

But where do they draw the line,,,7.5 tonnes,24 tonnes or just let you drive anything? I know its a bummer but unfortunately thats how it is. Just the same with motorbikes and their CC....I kept my licence at 70 but then landed up buying a small panel van 2800kg so a waste unless i decide to go big again at a later date.BUSBY,,:):)

The joke is they revoke C1+E but leave B+E with gvw 3500kgs and gtw of 11,000 kgs but limited to what towing unit can tow.
Would include a sizeable pickup and a colossal 5th wheel unit, but of course thats not dangerous :Eeek:

There is no trailer weight limit on B+E licence, unless you took a post 2013 car test then its 12000kg, only the tow vehicles train weight applies.
That's even worse.

Correction, that's a C1E.....but there's still no limit on pre 2013 B+E
