Hello
Reddog here, just bought my first motorhome an Elddis Autoquest 400 51 plate after years of caravaning. Can someone tell me if the leisure battery charges off the van alternator while travelling please . Still a bit wet behind the ears Im afraid.

Battery charge.....

In a nutshell...... yes.

Unless there's a problem of course. Leisure batteries can also be charged via solar panels, generators and battery-to-battery chargers!!

yes it does, but not very efficiently.

as your starter battery is almost always fully charged the alternator sees both engine and partly discharged leisure batteries as one almost charged single battery so cuts charge current to a minimum.

a battery to battery (B2B) charger fools the alternator into charging at a higher current so quickly charges the leisure battery....up to 5 times faster.
