leak only when driving (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Despite being very pleased with our Elddis Autoquest in general we have an odd problem. The rear window leaks in heavy rain but only when we are driving. The water is clearly coming in at the top of the window and running down the rubber seal and dripping out at the bottom soaking the upholstery. This only happens when we are moving - coming back from Devon yesterday during our nine hour (!) drive the back of the van got quite wet but then dried out in heavy rain when parked outside overnight.

We wonder if it is something to do with vibrations?? Has anyone else had this problem and better still, solved it?

I would guess that the seal isn't seated properly or needs replacing. Our 2004 Autoquest 100, which we had for five and a half years, had two rear windows and we never had such a problem.

Its caused by the vortex created by the vehicle moving. For instance if you drive your hatchback with the tailgate open you get exhaust fumes in the car. The seal must not be sealing correctly.

i had simular problem waterleaking from top middle area of windscreen in heavy rain after just passing through a really rough road last year. I guessed the vibration and twisting of the body structure broke mastic seal under the rubber. When I got home I purchased a tube of mastic seal which fitter use and applied a layer under the rubber to the area where leak comming from from the outside. Seemed to have cured the problem fingeres crossed.

If I was you I would simply mask up about 3mm (1/8 th ins) around the outside and seal it with either a polymer seal like Sikaflex or GP mastic :thumb: the sikaflex is very good but once opened it goes off so at around 6/8 quid a go is expensive -You can always remove the inner cover and unscrew the window clean the rubber seal and then seal it all with the mastic but thats just making work -If you mask both the window and the van side squirt the sealant on and smooth off with a wet finger then remove masking tape --job done in under five mins :thumb:
