A couple of days ago we were at Le Treport aire and we're amazed to see a starling mummeration. It was about six in the evening and it just got better as more and more birds joined, eventually the starlings roosted in the evergreens just behind the aire. It happened again the next night but was a bit shorter lived as it was pouring with rain and the wind was blowing very hard. I have never seen a mummeration before so was extremely pleased to watch from the comfort of our van.

Oh God - they used to come up the Stratford and Coventry Roads converging up Digbeth every evening when I worked in Birmingham city centre, they would wheel to the left round the Rotunda and circle the city as they returned to their usual roosts for the night. You would NOT wish to be at that end of New Street - or in the Bull Ring or the churchyard (Cathedral one) at dusk - as you were even more likely to be shat on than any other time!
