Hi, is anyone going to La Manga for New years eve?

We have never been and would appreciate any positive or negative feedback, I understand you either love it or hate it!

We set off on Boxing day so will be on the C & CC rally on the 30 December, love the fact that we will be in Spain for 4 months, the rally will be good with the return of Arther and Carol .
The rally part of the site is fine and the site itself is well run so we ignore the shanty town bits.
Plenty of walking, cycling and golf.
This will be our seventh year so it can't be that bad.

For us the site felt as though it needs money spending on it. The toilet facilities were very poor. The pitch we were on had high hedges and was very shady.
Out and about most of La Manga was shut.
    Definitely been to better places.
It certainly is like marmite. Friends of ours love it.

Yep its marmite ! Love it or hate it. We went there 4 years ago as our 1st venture to Spain in the winter months. We had a 32ft RV with a car and a trailer at the time & on the advice of another couple with an RV we drove in convoy as they had been to La Manga before. The rv's were parked up near the busy main dual carriageway which at times was noisey. This was about the only place to park them as the pitches near the road are the biggest. The campsite has over 1500 pitches, depending on the size of your unit you maybe able to get a decent pitch but they are not huge. If you have a large-ish motorhome + a car + a trailer you can find yourself sat out on the edge of your pitch!
Water/drainage & electric is all on pitch. The toilet blocks are ok & are cleaned frequently but the showers are well known not to be hot, they were just about warm.

Activities are organised during the winter months by the CCC rally which they don't mind you joining if there are spaces to do so, that includes xmas & New Year celebrations. There are also dinners/celebrations organised by the permanent 'British' fraternity+ quiz nights & a New Year dance.
Nationalities seem to stick together in there own areas & don't seem to want to mix. That may please some but we felt that its would have been good to integrate. With this in mind & the site being so big it does feel very impersonal & not a happy experience.
The nearest town/shops/supermarket is 'Cabo de Palos' which is about 3 miles away, you can walk/cycle all along the edge of the 'Mar Menor'. There are plenty of Brit bars serving fish & chips of Liver & Onions if that's what you like!! but when in Spain......! Cartagena is about 15 miles away. There is a train service from the next village which takes about 40 mins. This is a beautiful coastal town with a lovely marina/promenade & good shops.

If you enjoy walking then there are plenty of walks from the site but most start/finish in the Cal Blanque (national park) the other side of the busy dual carriageway.

For us the site is too commercialised for a relaxing holiday & hunted out some other more rural sites the other side of Cartagena. Also its surprising how different the weather can be 30 miles around the coast.

    Hope this helps.

It't quite funny how we are all different.

I've never used the site toilets as I always prefer to use our own no matter which site it is.
The hedges are around 6 ft high which give you a private pitch and protection from any wind
And of course La Manga itself is closed as it's winter but there are other places open.

Each to their own and I'm sure that are plenty of other more touristy places open such as Benidorm. Yuk.

On the positive side Ginny, the Mar Menor is lovely, great for the dogs to run loose, our Izzy runs for miles when we are out on our bikes, and its so peaceful once you go out the back gate. :thumb:

The site is very dated, a lot of the time we use our own shower. :Eek!:

It is a shanty town, the only place we have seen a static with a upstairs bedroom that being a caravan on top of it.:Rofl1:

But if your going on the rally, with Arthur and Carol being back this year they will have plenty of things organised. :thumb:

One thing I don't like is people drive down to the club house, have a lot to drink, because is only the site, and when you walk the dog in the dark be very careful.

We have friends that long stay over winter, so we visit then, but if we go this year it will not be until March. Bob.

Thank you for a very informative post, we were supposed to be going to Mazarron but friends of ours are going to La Manga and we fancied going. We are members of the CC&C so I wanted opinions about the site before we phoned and booked. I am sure there will be a few funsters on site and we want to stay until we meet up at Malaga in March.

It was an informative post but not really typical or factual. Due to the size of the van and also towing a trailer with a car it's not surprising that the pitch was a bit tight and also alongside the road.
Nationalities do mix, my wife goes to the craft days and sits next to and talks to Dutch and German ladies.
I have played golf also with the Dutch and Germans, just watch the Dutch as they cheat a bit.
The nearest shop is not 3 miles away it is on the site and is run by the supermarket which is 3 miles away and is very good.
There are a couple of english bars nearby but there are plenty of Spanish ones which are good value for money.
There are good walks on the other side of the dual carriageway over to the beaches and the good news is that you walk over the roadbridge to get there.

Horses for courses Mike, you have your opinion & others have theirs. That's what this forum is all about. My post was our experience 4 years ago. I said the nearest town/shops/supermarket is 3 miles away which is factual, its giving the reader an idea of how far town facilities are from the campsite not just the campsite shop which although run by the supermarket 3 miles away is more expensive & does not have such an extensive selection or choice.

Although I said we were pitched up near the main road due to the size of our motorhome I still mentioned other pitches were available.

If I had a choice I would avoid La Manga & go to Mazarron! Wherever you go enjoy it!

Not sure if you have been to Mazarron but definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
Great walks and cycle rides at the western end.
