Anyone know what these are? Dad's PC has 2gb memory (these cards) I was wondering if they still make 2gb memory and where can I buy them Dell want nearly £80.

Thoughts.

Does it have to be 2gb? I have an old laptop with the hard drive removed. I can take a look later and see what's in it and send you it if it's any use.

I normally use the Crucial checker mentioned above then look for deals - but buy decent stuff, some of the generic memory on eBay is rubbish.
There are good deals to be had on second hand memory from good suppliers though.

Laptop? Will be SODIMM's then.
PC2-6400 is the key bits you need to check for.

Looks like crucial do them but are currently out of stock on the 2GB. Might be worth contacting them to see when they will be back in stock.

Also check the manual as some older laptops can't handle 4GB of memory so you will only see about 3.5GB

PS: Crucial is a manufacturer called Micron one of the biggest producers of memory in the world.

Having worked as an importer of these parts, I would never buy from a third party reseller as you don't know how the memory has been handled (ESD protections) etc.
Had too many unstable systems caused by damaged memory.

You might be better inputting into your favourite search engine (Google -other search engines are available!) Memory for xxxxx. Where xxxxx is the model of laptop. That way you'll get all the possibilities on offer - maybe more than 2Gb.

You could subsidise whatever new memory you buy by selling the old memory cards on eBay, at the risk of stating the bleeding obvious :)

If you are asking on here (i.e. assume limited computer fiddling) then your best bet is Crucial.

Just to add, if the laptop is Windows 7 32bit you'll be capped to 3GB too, regardless of how much you actually fit. If it's 64bit then no problems (y)

And, another +1 vote from me for Crucial :)

If this fits your laptop I will post to you...

It came out of my Dell laptop when I increased the ram. Works okay.

Kind offer Mr Mousy but looking at ShiftZZ's photo it has different connection slot (the metal 'piano' key bit) also the particular model Shiftzz's dad has will only take a maximum of 2gb per slot.

@ShiftZZ, I've had a chat with hubby and as it's an older laptop he wouldn't bother getting 'new' memory - we've bought used memory many times off ebay (even for my new laptops) and never had any issues with it.

Based on the memory you have already:

... this one on Ebay at the moment appears to be what you want:

We have this Notebook for when we travel (frequently) ACER - Aspire V5-122P 11.6” . It has an AMD Dual Core processor A4-1250 (1.0 GHz) , Memory is 4GB DDR3 L and a 500 GB HDD.
Question is, as it is painfully slow due to inbuilt limitations will doubling the memory help with processing speed in a worthwhile manner? Crucial say that it has a 10GB capacity through 1 slot only, but their 'upgrade' is a Crucial 4GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM which is the same amount of memory already fitted.
We both find this is the very best device we have ever had for writing longer emails while on the move, plus of course surfing for all the stuff you want t know about where you are etc. Screen is superb, keyboard fantastic, wifi better than my phone but so slow.

Had a problem with updating the graphics card driver (apparently well known) but have worked around that, don't ever have much on the HDD, and in a few days am removing the W8.0 + W8.1 + W10 installation that we now have and replacing with a W10 only program. Thought that by doubling the memory it would maybe make the computer 30% faster, could it? and is it worth it?

Thanks

I suspect the CPU is the issue. You have enough memory.

veevee ... according to Acer the laptop is capable of 6gb maximum, so if you have 4gb already I wasn't convinced that just replacing it with another 4gb would make that much difference so I couldn't understand that being recommended ... however it's not as simple as that ... I've just had a shuftie and according to the below you have 2gb 'soldered' memory (ie fixed) and a single 2gb slot = 4gb in total, so they are proposing that you replace the single 2gb with a single 4gb giving you 6gb in total which does make sense. You need to check for sure exactly which model you have as this is in relation to the V5-122P 0647 model:

<Broken link removed>

Upgrading to 6gb in total should definitely improve things as you appear to have a 64bit system so it will be able to utilise the full 6gb of memory. The ONLY question I would have for them is if you replace the 2gb stick with a 4gb stick will it definitely use the extra memory as some laptops won't and will be 'pulled down' to the lowest capacity, ie 2 x 2gb.

It looks like it just slides in sideways ... a bit like a sim for a phone, however looking at it, it appears to be a completely different type of memory.

Thank you all, that's helpful.

I will download the test that Crucial run to examine the notebook and see what they come up with (using desktop to research and write this. So far I have just used the model description typed in to the Crucial website. Don't expect it to be different but who knows. Will also move the cover panels but not too well today as we have just got back from an exhausting trip so may leave it until tomorrow.

Minxy you are so sharp and very helpful too, thank you very much.

Here's a better view if any of it is of interest but I guess Minxygirl is right and it's no good. Might be useful to someone though.

OK, the Crucial arrives at the same conclusion when run by the notebook, 4GB of memory would be an update. There is a choice between 1600 and 1866 MT/S with a £2.40 difference. That would appear to be £2.40 well spent for an 18% increase in speed?

Also ran the Task Manager during a pause, the CPU and Disc were sometimes up to 99% with 3 pages open but nothing being inputed, just sitting there doing not too much. At that point the memory was 60+% so not fully used.
This high CPU reading may be the video card which still gives problems from time to time but I'm no computer expert.
The HHD is 14% loaded so 86% free.

Trying to decide whether to give up on our favourite computer and admit the original build restricts any major improvement, or hope it will go back at least to it's as new performance as a W8 computer which was just about ok when I wipe all programs and W10 is installed on it's own.

Minxy, the Model number on the sticker is MS2377 which I couldn't find on the Crucial site so used Aspire V5 122P as the basis of the scan
