Hi everyone I have been looking at the 390 ktm Duke to load onto a Armitage bike rack on the back of our new frankia i740.
I am also interested in the new BMW 300 which is due in dealers about May.
The ktm is 150kg and if you travel with half a tank the BMW will make the same weight.
I am Steve M the other half of Gina M

You need to be aware that 150kg on the rack will put considerably more load than that on to the rear axle. There is a way of calculating exactly how much based on the overhang of your van but I forget the formula. I'm sure someone will tell you in a minute.

Make sure you don't overload.

You should also be aware that KTM tend to quote dry weights on their websites / tech spec info, so best to verify that too.

Thanks for the advice they say it includes fuel and call it wet .
I am new to motorbikes apart from a fs1e in 1976.

I really fancied one of those, they look a whole lot of fun.

But for a MH you can buy a new Chinese 125 for little ££ weighing 100kg, it will do what you need as local transport and it hardly matters if it gets nicked or you keep dropping it getting it onto the rack. Just consider it disposable.

So why have I got neither ? The maths did not work out for 100kg, back axle would be overloaded. And for home use I wanted something with a bit more smoothness and grunt as general transport.

In the last few days someone has uploaded an impressive spreadsheet to calculate axle loadings.

Thanks for the advice I'm going to check the spreadsheet and discuss any Armitage racks.
We are not rushing into any bikes until Steve M has done mod 1 and 2

I have a Duke 390 which I carry in the garage of my current van, but used to carry it on an Armitage rack on the back of my previous van.
It's a great bike for the van, quite small and very easy to load/unload.
A fun bike to ride, I've heard it called an angry little bike by someone who had a big grin on their face after a few miles on it.

Still have the rack available for sale if you've not already got one.

I've been thinking about getting a trailer. Both of my bikes are far too heavy to even consider a rack.

Is this going to be another Frankia KTM combo ? Love our 690 Duke,as has been said ,I think the weights will be dry as all bike manufacturers tell porkies about weights. We are fortunate enough to get ours in the garage of the 7900.Might consider dropping down to the 390 as this one is just a bit tall for Lil.Or I might just buy the 790 when it comes out.
