Hopefully next year we are going away in the van for most of the summer. First time ever for so long, hope it works out and we don't end up killing each other. We have a windows lap top, that we will use to keep in touch with friends and family, what sort of packages and what sort of prices are we talking about to do this? Any recommendations or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the trip, wish it was me. I suggest you search on the site, there have been dozens of similar threads in recent months and all the answers are already here on the site, just use the search facility and try different wordings until you find what you are looking for. enjoy

You pretty much pay for what you get, best price wise is probably three network with cheap payg and contract deals on usb dongles.

I have one on most networks and would say the deal o2 had some while back was about the best, £29.99 for the payg dongle (which was unlocked) and £2 per day usage, pretty handy if your just away for the weekend.

As for using in Europe, pretty much every uk sim is expensive and best way is to pick one up locally, I'm yet to try this but the unlocked dongle will come in handy for that.
