I've always had manual sat dishes, and either clamped to fences, fitted on a tripod, etc , also had a Max-view crank-up .. don't want another .. not in a gift, nor any other crank up.. had enough of that, and had enough of standing in the rain trying to align a dish.. so going to treat myself to an all singing all dancing auto satellite system.. :)

Hardest question .. is which one.. ?

so many on the market.. and prices ranging from under a grand to over three grand..

done a lot of reading and like this unit.. .. but before jumping in.. does anyone have one ?

or can recommend a better auto sat system in the price bracket £1500- £2,000 ?

    Don't want a dome..

I will be fitting myself.. and the link is just for reference..

I am considering buying a Max-View crank-up dish. It sounds as though you did not have a good experience with yours. What are the major down-sides?

People seem to have problems aligning a crank up disk finding the wrong st etc, however once you establish a point of reference from any other sat finding the right one is fairly simple usually takes less than 2mins to set mine up.

There was a very long thread about it.. maybe have a dig in the graveyard will unearth it

basically the braking/locking mechanism that keeps the dish aligned was a poor design, .. I even had Maxview out to look at it.. and they replaced it but it was still the same..

I had a long running discussion with Maxview about the poor quality winder and locking mechanism.. In the end the MD paid me a visit to inspect the the installation but could find no fault.. Some time later it failed again and they sent another winder..

IMO .. It is a good dish let down by a poorly designed winder and lock.

That was back in 2007.. they may have improved..

    Edit,,just found the thread

    I dont know the price
But for me the OYSTER 85 with auto skew has to be the best.
I also like the fack that it can be reprogramed without the need to return to the factory.

    No I had a normal 85
Now have a normal 65 its not enough.
I was in Spain (north) there was a man there with one.
I thought it was a great unit He got all the channels he needed inc ITV

When I had a problem with the 85 on the last van I phoned Oyster UK
And they talked me through the reprograming for Astra 2.
With the 65 i let the local dealer reprogram it for €20

If/when I change it it will be for the 85 twin auto skew.

I think Old Mo has the same dish but with Internet (he is posh)
