I`m a newbie
The son of one of my best friends has been killed in Afghanistan.

Link Removed

He left the TA for a short while, but re-enlisted and volunteered for service in Afghanistan. I have known him all his life and I was with him and his dad just 3 months ago, the day before he reported for deployment.
A great kid and a sad loss for all that knew him.

RIP Matty lad!!
Gone but never to be forgotten

My first thought is a selfish one, thank heavens my boy is out and unscathed, my second thought is for the parents of that young fella, and all the ones he's left behind including you.

I'm so sorry, all the best Griff

So sad, he was a brave man to re-enlist knowing what lay ahead. Hats off to all our troops overseas.

How very sad

I feel for his family,
it is one of the hardest things to cope with the loss of a child

Today we will remember him and all the other brave lads.

So very, very sorry to hear the news. PLEASE when the time is right let his family know of how the members here are thinking of them and their sorrow which must be beyond words.

We all know how important it is to remember these brave men and women at 11 today, and to show by example as we give our minute's silence to those around us wherever we are.

God Bless you Matty.

We will all be thinking of him and his family when the clock strikes 11 today.

Please pass on all our condolences to his family when the time is right.
We are all so sorry for his loss.
As an ex soldier myself, I remember the buzz I got when on op tours. One would hope he felt he was enjoying every moment of the job he believed in before his untimely death.

We will be forever in his debt.

Its news you dont want to hear thats for sure. Everyone of those lifes lost is someones son, daughter, father, brother, sister etc.

I know how devastating the death would be, he gave the biggest sacrifice for our freedom. Will say a prayer for him and others at 11am.

My son was out there last year he came back safe and sound, thank god.

I remember thinking "how many more" when the 200th and then the 300th soldier to die was announced some time ago. Still it goes on, we have to hope that some good will eventually come of these sacrifices our soldiers are making for democracy elswhere in the world. RIP Matty and all those others who have so bravely given their lives.
