Ever since we got our van the door hasn't been quite right, it would lock with the central locking but occasionally, and ever more frequently refuse to unlock. When it was in for annual service, under warranty it always worked when we got it back, they seemed to lubricate it somehow.
At the last service a crack had started to appear in the inner door moulding, a result of over-enthusiastic slamming in a high wind. As suspected this wasn't covered under the warranty but a friendly service manager gave me a door from the skip from a van that had been repaired.
After a few weeks of looking at the spare door, and slowly taking it apart, I tackled the van today. Really fiddly job stripping it in situ but nonetheless got it apart and found a broken spring in the latch mechanism, swapped it for my spare and changed the door moulding.
Works like new now but not a job I would recommend for the faint hearted!
