Getting better
Lamb hotspot for lunch today.
View attachment 71681

Another difficult night, feeling unwell today so I'm glad to have started the steroids.
Apparently they give you the munchies so that tin of chocolates on Martha's locker might be disappearing to my side of the curtain later....
The food does not look exactly Masterchef standard but hope you do not have the suffer it for too much longer.

Not surprised - put a fit & healthy person in hospital for a week & they'd feel unwell too. No sleep, loss of control over your life, mind-numbing boredom, surrounded by sick people. That's enough to make you feel unwell before even considering that you might just have something wrong with you. :(

It's the only downside of having an illness that leaves your mind functioning normally. How did a sane person survive in hospital before we were allowed access to the internet? Oh yes, and I forgot the communal TV tuned to the lowest common denominator. At least we are mostly spared that these days.

If the steroids do their job, once the tests are over & the results are in, you may well get kicked out to the comfort of your own home. (y) Hope the results are in soon - there are so many people with so many body parts crossed for you that the world is coming to a halt out here ....
xx

I had to lay flat for 6 hours after the LP, whilst drinking water to stay hydrated. Now fellow funsters without sharing too much information that's a long time to go without a wee, especially when your "undercarriage" is numb and not working properly.

Luckily I was visited by an Angel in the shape of a friend, with perfect timing she sat for hours chatting and laughing. She had bought me a beautiful selection of gifts, thoughtfully chosen to enhance my stay, lovely hand cream, shower gel, soft tissues, cool spray, sucky sweets etc.
we had a good catch up on our family news and didn't stop laughing at some of the antics which go on in here.
She also said I'm developing welsh accent:eek:

I replied that's the least of my worries....I've taken a liking to Woman's Weekly:rofl:

By the time she left I could slowly begin sitting up, ready to be taken to the bathroom.
The nurse got called away so I grappled with the electric bed control to sit up a little more... Now what's my nickname? Yes "user error"...
Instead of raising the head of the bed I raised the whole bed so my nose is touching the ceiling (slight exaggeration for dramatic purpose).
Anyway as I shot up I hear a noise like niagra falls :Eeek:a huge rush of liquid hitting the floor, it runs and then dribbles and drips.
I panic and loose the remote, convinced its me I shout for the nurse, he pulls back the curtain and is startled to see me up so high.
I shout "stand back Steve there is wee everywhere"

"Oh God yes Bach, he says it's the lady in the next bed, she's emptied her Catheter bag on the floor, not frightened of a bit of wee are you cariad?!"

"You coming down for supper?"

Mousy, I don't know how you do it! There you are, lying in hospital, potentially seriously ill, with nothing but a phone to type on & yet you are keeping the rest of the world in stitches with your stories. (y)(y):D

Those electric beds are brilliant though, aren't they. You can always find a comfortable position with them. Last time I was in having a ruptured knee tendon repaired, there wasn't room on the ward I was supposed to be on & the ward I was in had those beds. So comfortable & a fun gadget to play with when bored. Then they moved me back to the right ward - back to a standard hospital bed - flat, hard & too short for me anyway. Within hours my back was hurting more than my knee! :( But good while it lasted. (y)

Dawn - there you are in dire straits. I've read the whole seven pages of this thread and laughed and cried in equal measure! I can only admire your spirit and hope that, when this awful ordeal is over, you'll write a book about your exploits! Andy and I wish you the speediest of recoveries and send you the most powerful of healing thoughts. A nicer person, I couldn't ever have wished to meet and I have fabulous memories of spending time with you and yours at Chester this year. I hope to see you at Malvern; there's a bottle of Bombay Sapphire in our van with your name on it chick - it's the least you deserve. I hope to deliver it personally at Malvern - but if, for any reason, you're not there, it'll stay with us until you're back on your feet again. You should think seriously, when you're back to your normal self, of writing a book. You certainly have the knack. Your spirit is amazing - to be in such circumstances yet be able to laugh at yourself and those around you is incredible. I'd happily pay money to read your musings! Read the book I recommended - Elizabeth is Missing - it'll help you understand Gertie's situation and see it's funny side. Sending you lots of positive energy Dawn - I'm hoping so much to see you at Malvern, on the road to recovery.

I said what am I going to eat. he said not to worry, he had been told I wont last the night. [ scared to go sleep or what.]..so please get better. all our love Rose and Mike.

Guys I'm blushing, :X3: while I thank you all for your praise (keep it coming) and it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside I feel it's misplaced. I just like to laugh and even more make others giggle. who wouldnt find it funny? I just wish there were cameras here, although you wouldn't want smelly vision

Jac, I'll collect on that Gin(y) I too have happy memories of Chester sat outside the van with @petensal and others in the sunshine. And didn't we make a cracking quiz team?!
I'll try and kindle that book.
And I'm determined to be at Malvern

@carole I love your hair, looking forward to catching up. At least I'll be able to find you in a crowd of Funsters!

I'm abit dopey (oral morph) so apologises if I haven't named and thanked you all, Simon you've been great, very understanding and pork pie man, your post made me laugh out loud.
As to all the other suggestions to write... Thanks for the vote of confidence we may have to thank @BreweryDave as he posted recently about some courses he had found, I checked them out and signed up for a creative writing course, starting in October.
So when I become a zillionaire by penning a blockbuster which will be about a wizard who likes light bondage whilst travelling in his Moho, you will have read it here first. :D

Must dash Muriel has found the remote control for the ward telly:confused: I'll see if I can distract her with a new packet of Tena Ladies.

Jac we are on old lady food time, breakfast at 8, lunch at 12 supper at 5. And it's all nice and soft:eek:

Quite why we get lights on and woken at 6am is beyond me, it's not like these ladies spend 2 hours on hair and makeup:rofl:

Unbelievable! You must spend 2 hours on your hair and make-up. Keep the end up and all that. You owe it to yourself and womankind! Then you're ready to face the world, however ill you are.

Breakfast doesn't have to be mushy - ask for bacon and eggs!! And lunch isn't really necessary anyway, so soup and bread is fine. But make sure you put your lippy on for tea - five o'clock is early but nevertheless, you can make it worthwhile. Sit up straight (or as straight as you can without being uncomfortable!) and take tea with your beautifully made up head held high!! Imagine Martin (or whoever else floats your boat) is your dinner companion and behave as you would if he were really there. Keep the female end up chick - you'll feel better for it. You're not an old lady yet - you have lots of time to imagine yourself being one! We can discuss further at Malvern x

This is as close as you'll get to a Lovely balloon picture -rubbish - sorry but the balloons pailed into insignificance when the wind got up as the temperature dropped! Jackie and I are wrapped in Joy's throw, which we spilled white wine over, because @taran Las failed to put the Cork back in the bottle which he had served us with! You can't get the staff these days!

Keep your chin up - if you plan to be there next week we will come and visit! Xx

Well Geraldine you've let me down:whistle: The one job you had this weekend was to get some pretty huge ballon pictures and that looks like your in Cleveland!
Did you not get close at all?

It seems to me you've been far too busy having a good time:cheers:

And wrapping yourself in a blanket so you look like a refugee will not win any sympathy from me:rofl:

That handsome chap next to Cliff looks like a younger, slimmer version of Phil. :D:D

I fear you are being led astray Ger, I'll have to come to Malvern to lead you back onto the path of righteousness.

Too much Fun being had in my view:clap2::wine::clap2:

Phyllis the lady in the bed next to me is very poorly tonight, she has had staff with her most of the night, I don't know much about Phyllis as she only came yesterday, she hasn't had any visitors, she is 87 and another local chapel attending girl. She like Gertie is very polite always saying thank you, sorry and that's lovely in her soft welsh voice. In the short time I've been here I already refer to the other patients as "my ladies" and there is a real feeling of
camaraderie between us, small acts of kindness bind us, a magazine shared, puddings swapped and we awake to soft calls of "you alright cariad?". Of the 6 only 3 or 4 have limited capacity to chat and whist we look on with bemusement at the confused ladies there is a feeling of protectiveness to them, they may be batty but they are our batty ladies.

So we don't take kindly to the shuffling wanderers who bump into our beds from the other ward. I've had my locker rummaged through countless times and as I'm laying in bed I don't mind as I can keep a gentle eye on them and my things. However, Martha has misplaced her bottle of talc and you'd think the world is coming to an end!

Annie is in the bed opposite me, until 2 years ago she was a Dance teacher, sharing her knowledge with both children and adults she taught ballroom, modern and tap. She is very poorly and sadly her dancing days are over but she enjoys listening to her tape player of music and visits from her husband. I'm glad she doesn't notice his silent tears each time he bends over and gently kisses her goodbye. she struggles to breath so talking is limited but we have swapped stories of children, grandchildren and her opinion of strictly (rubbish but Bruce is good for his age).

Lizzie is next to Annie, she is 90 and registered blind from birth, again a local girl she lives with her guide dog Katie a black lab. Katie is bought into the ward by her foster parents daily for a short visit but lizzie is worried about her dog becoming to attached to them. Shes been in hospital a while since failing and braking her shoulder. She's the most "with it" lady (except me) but again has breathing trouble so we pace our chats of dogs and family etc. I think she must be well known locally as she has lots of visitors.

Dolly is next to lizzie, 91, bedridden she hates being touched and moans and swears much to the embarrassment of her totally devoted son who visits to fed her twice a day, sometimes taking 2 hours of gentle encouragement over a bowl of soup. He lives close to his parents and when not with Dolly he is looking after her husband who is 92. He has careers going in 4 times a day but is missing his wife.

Then we have Martha sometimes with it sometimes not, she is loud and demanding of the staff. A large lady who likes to wake us up at 3am with the russel of her biscuit packets and snacks. As we are on a ward which specialises in diabetes I think this might be her contraband. She likes East Enders, casualty and Jeremy Khyle. She's not mobile and seems to need a lot of care from the staff but I've noticed she is quick at catching any falling sweets! She is 2 beds up from me so luckily it's difficult to talk.

So we have all survived another night of lights and noise but I don't begrudge it, where on earth would we be without this help and support. I cannot praise the nursing staff enough, they show endless patience and kindness but are continually short staffed and busy.

Of course I love to chat so we have all swapped life stories but that's a tale for another night dear funsters. It's time to start the day so I shall sign off and listen to @Yorkshirefreckles it's time for shower, hair and makeup.

Good Morning Dawn, sounds like stepping back in time to a TV series on life in a Cottage Hospital, bringing all the characters to life, what a wealth of older people we have in some of the little Welsh Villages with story's often not told.
How are things with you this morning are the steroids kicking in and all those tubes out. Looks like Gerri and co are holding your end up and keeping things oiled ready for your return. I've also ordered some Sun for September so you can recuperate in comfort.

Had one for 5 years many moons ago. Now starting again.
Dawn this just isn't fair.:(
I keep tuning in to this version of Emergency Ward 10 to see how you are progressing and to send vibes of support and good wishes and all I get is a diatribe that has me either spilling my coffee or in some instances spraying it across the room.
By the time I have got to the end of reading and recovered my compus mentus I am nearly in need of joining you in the ward.
I am now convinced that you are actually making up all this illness bit so you could get in there and grab inspiration for a new tv series that you have been commissioned to write.(y)
Get well soon but don't let them throw you out too quickly - for our sakes not yours.
