I don't know if we are dreaming but we had thought to get the ferry from Barcelona to Sardinia and thereafter Sicily and work our way up from southern to northern Italy, starting in February. Someone has just mentioned today most campsites aren't open until at least Easter if not summer. We have two young kids with us so don't want to make life unnecessarily difficult. Do we give it a rain check?

Do a search on Sicily, someone wintered over there last winter. Wasn't blazing hot but pleasant and stayed on campsites. Isn't middle east driver there right now ???

We toured Italy in March and April this year. Only got as far South as Sorrento. We found that there were very few campsites open until about Easter time. Having said that there were plenty of free or cheap Sostas available.

I went through Belgium and Luxembourg (would not do that again) then down to Metz, Nancy and then crossed into Switerland at Basle. Used Aires at Pont A Mousson (on the Moselle) and Thann. Drove through Switerland in 4 or 5 hours and crossed into Italy at Como. Saw some snow in Belgium and also at the Gothard Tunnel, but roads were clear and had no problem with the weather at all.

It was just beginning to warm up when we got to the Cinque Terres area and then went on to Pisa, Turcany, Rome and got as far south as Sorrento before we crossed to the east coast and drove back up on that side.

February may be more difficult and you will need to get further down Italy before you get good warm weather.

A group of us go to palermo for our lads long weekend away (cultural of course )in Feb, been doing it for the past 3 years & have always found the weather bright & sunny although a little cold if the wind gets up,chilly at night. We only go for 5 days at a time so not an accurate long term recommendation.Leaving it till may 17 next year because I'm now in sunny Spain. :)
