Probably early next week we will be ready to start the Italian leg of our trip around Europe. We are currently in Frejus, French Riviera, waiting for rain to clear so we can sightsee around nice, Cannes, Monaco etc. our plan is to head into Italy and make our way down the west coast as far as Pompeii area, then head back up towards Venice and through Lake Garda and Milan, heading to Switzerland via the Gotthard tunnel.

Obvious places we want to visit in addition to the above: Rome, Tuscany, Florence, possibly Pisa.

Has anyone done this and/or have recommendations for a good route/places to stop at on the way down to Amalfi/back up to Venice from the Amalfi?

We are conscious that we have just under six months to do the rest of our tour (hoping to fit in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Czech, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands and Northern France/Disneyland) so we are thinking to try to get round Italy in two or three weeks.

Also, we are travelling with 5 and 3 yo daughters so anywhere particularly good for kids would be a bonus.

MANY THANKS.
