Dartford Crossing tunnels closed over safety fears sparking M25 chaos

Drivers have tonight been urged to avoid the Dartford Crossing after both tunnels were shut for safety reasons. Read the full story

maybe one of the cameras has gone off. There seems to be a very response to CLOSE the tunnel when some incident occurs but BOTH.
Need to fin out more but know nothing yet. There needs a way to turn the traffic around through to the other direction to save these huge holdups when people are trapped for hours because of the barriers not being openable because it is illegal to do U Turns on a Motorway , for obvious reason normally but under controlled circumstances?????

Not sure if £100 a day will be imposed because of tunnel closure
It is I believe a 106 miles going round bridge back to tunnel
It could end up cost of diesel v charge

We do the software that works the signs and signals for the Dartford Crossing. It all works in the factory! I'm sure I'll find out tomorrow what the problem was !

We came thro tunnel Sunday lunch time, relatively quiet for traffic, it was obviously flowing too well, so they had to do something about that!!

it was shut yesterday afternoon when we c ame home from margate 1a to 31 closed on the warning signs
the section through the tunnels and bridge is actually not motorway ive won some spectacular arguments as to which motorway circles london at quiz nights the answer is of course none

No the LEZ always applies, I got caught out going down the A13 when this happened the other way over the bridge, Police told me to go down the A13 and across the Blackwall tunnel, which I did. I should have remnoved my number plates first it seems.
The official diversion is 121 miles back to the A2 there are two signs on the M25 stating the diversion route around the north side.
It cost £1000 penalty for taking a 3860kg motorhome as the Euro 3 does not apply, it has to be a higher rating. They consider you the same as a 40tonner.

I noticed suprisingly in the slightly disorganised Netherlands they explained in English the LEZ requirements before you went in!!

Even when working "normally" it is useless. All removing the toll booths has done is shorten the queue by 2 miles. The need for "escorted" loads through the tunnels is one of the main reasons for the constant queues.Utter shambles & will remain so until the new crossing is completed downstream in about 2027. I'll hopefully be dead long before that.

that is so that they can continue charging to use it & so that local traffic, including motorway prohibited stuff including tractors etc ; can use it

I lived in Thurrock two years back whatever happens at that junction
M25 or a13 the whole place was at a standstill

We came back from the isle of white few years back
Tunnel was shut we had to do the full circuit
2 hrs and a nightmare 5 in the evening and needing to get home for night shift starting 20.00 hrs o'clock

Just glad I moved away just far enough to visit son DIL and granddaughters in 75 minutes ish

Is the Dartford tunnel back to normal? We're heading back to the UK tomorrow morning hoping to head straight up the A1 is there likely to be big delays? Thanks
