Hi,

Does anyone...Geo...:winky:

Know it there is an exhaust volume level as part of the MOT test?

There seem to be a lot of vehicles around nowadays that seem incredibly noisy with modified exhaust systems.

I have checked mine after the new exhaust and, although the pitch has changed, the volume seems around how it was before.

I have seen exhaust emissions but don't recall anything else apart from system integrity.

Steve.

Dont think its part of the test as MOT stations dont have decibel meters but the police can and do prosecute for noisy exhausts (especially motorcycles).

Also the VOSA man can do you for it as well, they can even do you for having a tint that is to dark on the front side windows:Eeek:

I wouldnt worry too much about the RV though if you get pulled just open the bonnet and say 6ltr V8......its not going to sound like a pussy cat purring is it????

Cheers Ginge.

I guess it depends what they rev it to.....
Reason for rejection B

A silencer in such a condition, or of such a type that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in good condition

Where we gonna get another one to compare it with:RollEyes:

Note
The level of noise should be tested at all speeds required for the emissions test
From memory yours isn't revved at all
Geo
ps This MoT station does have a decibell meter (calibrated)

Good Point Geo.....Cheers:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I don't think it's unduly noisy considering the size and construction of the silencer.Perhaps I'm worrying too much.

Are you required to use it ?:shout::shout::shout:

I guess as it isn't eligible for emissions...having no cat as standard fitted it'll be ok.

I assume you mean the noise meter:RollEyes: No im not compelled to use it
It is used to compare any readings given by Vosa or plod when issuing a Prohibition notice, to members of the public If I get a lower reading its signed off by me as improved:ROFLMAO:
we are told to make a subjective assessment of noise.

Definition----Subjectivity refers to a person's perspective or opinion, particularly feelings, beliefs, and desires. It is often used to refer to unsubstantiated personal opinions, in contrast to knowledge and fact-based beliefs

I cant in all good faith make a decision not based on facts
hence the meter:thumb:

Cheers for a very informative reply Geo.

I'll see how it goes when I submit it for the test.:thumb:
