...... leaving a car on permanent charge when away from home for a month or two?

My Volvo car sits in the garage while we are away in our m/h and on return has usually flattened its battery due to the clock and various management systems which use power when parked-up.

I don't particularly want to disconnect the battery due the associated problems when reconnecting so intend to leave it on trickle charge but am a little concerned there could be any problems I've not considered.

Left the wifes Peugot on charge whilst we wintered away - but just in case put the charger on a timer so it only operated couple of hours a day. Started first crack when we got back. If it's a modern unit, shouldn't be any problems.

Thanks TerrL, a timer seems a good idea....once a week for 24 hours would be ideal if I can find a timer to do this.

Any other views or suggestions anyone please.

Something like this will do the job if you want to do a timer option.

A lot of people I know use this ;)

It's an Oxford product and ideal to leave on the battery for long periods of time

We use them all the time on the motorbike batteries and works cars, excellent bit of kit as it'll monitor the battery and adjust accordingly, including float charge
