We're off on our first week away in Baz tomorrow. Its just crossed my mind that my EHU lead is only 10m long. Will this be enough? We're staying on caravan club sites all week. Are the EHU points always close to the pitches?

As a general rule the CC let you choose your own pitch, so you can pick one where you lead reaches the power point!

10 metres should be long enough, there might be time you need more so in future you could carry another, of say, 25 metres, which you could join with your other one. ;)

Caravan club pitches almost always have a EHU reasonably close.

Not sure you could say that if you take your motorhome onto the continent.

I have 2x 25mtrs and have used them both in the past. (not sure how many volts I got at my end but everything worked) (y)

It can never be too long !

Seriously.

Get a 20m to go with it, then The World is your oyster.
We've got a 50m reel in reserve - just in case
Plus a 15m cable for every day use
Better to be safe than sorry

Whatever length lead you use always make sure it is either very loosly coiled or preferably fully unwound and laid out safely.

A tightly coiled lead, ie: on a cable drum etc, is a potential fire hazard

It basically acts like a coil on an electric fire if you don't. (y)

Stick to the regs which is 25 meters 2.5sq mm and not artic blue which is not rated for outdoor use
The correct cable is a Rubber insulated cable to HO7RN-F or HO5RN-F

I have 2 x 25m plus a 10m and have had to use all three joined together on a couple of occasions on Spain and Morocco.i always use the shortest cable if I can to avoid having cable coiled up. I've never stayed on a Cc site so no experience.

On recent France trip, mixture of sites and Aires. In 6 weeks, I only got away with using a 10m cable twice, once had to join it to the 25m one, for all the rest the 25m one was fine.

I'm assured that Arctic blue is the best cable for outdoor use as the name suggests it isn't affected by cold weather

Not true artic blue does not have
BASEC approval as it deviates from British standard and not rated for outdoor use at 240v
Arctic cable is rated at 300/500V it is not suitable for use at those voltages in some circumstances. Reg 704.522.8.11 which says that on construction and demolition sites 300/500V cable shall be used for reduced low voltage (110v) applications, but at voltages exceeding that then 450/750V (H07RN)cable shall be used.
At volages exceeding reduced low voltage, therefore 300/500V cable is unsuitable for ALL temporary external installations at standard low voltage
BS 7671 clearly states that the caravan should be connected by H07RN-F cable. Looking at the specs for H07RN-F and Artic cable it can be seen that H07RN-F cable is a much tougher cable.
The only anomoly is that the regulations refer to H07 and H05 cable for the same purpose. As this only relates to the voltage capability it should not matter as there will not be caravans with supplies higher than 500V
