We are going to Ireland over Christmas to see relatives, but would like to travel around as make for Cork. Will there be any camping available over the Christmas period or is wild camping available at all ?

Was a newbie, now a Middie.
I used to spend Christmas in Ireland.........

Christmas Day

My twentieth year, and dawn is breaking , cold and grey,
Another dawn, another day.
The day that Christ was born, another place, so far away.
No night for me of visiting kings, or angel song, or stable bare.
No Christmas tree, or roaring hearth, or tasty fare.
My driver puked some hours ago. I heard him throw.
The dead dog thrown from Divis Flats splattered his face, made such a mess.
The reasons had for throwing it I can only guess.
And now his rancid vomit mixes freely on the floor,
With petrol, oil and ciggy ends, and piss, and paint, and more.
On Christmas Day.

Was it really meant to be like this, when that baby boy was born?
Was this what he promised us, a stinking world, with bodies torn?
I really need to take a crap.
It's now been nearly fourteen hours, in this steel trap, this load of scrap.
My headset rubbers welded on, my face is numb, my senses gone.
And all the night the falling rain, the icy wind, the peace is won.
The sniper tucks up in his bed, but still we watch and wait.
Just like those poor shepherds did, upon an earlier date.
Now in the distance churchbells ring, to make the faithfull come and sing.
But God in Belfast means just one thing,
On Christmas Day.

Today my son is six months old, one day this story he'll be told
Of how his daddy braved rain, and riots, and cold.
If I get home.
And if I dont, how will he be? Too young, by far, to remember me.
Will he be told? Will he see, the faded photograph of me?
The radio squeeks, the recall comes. I kick my driver from his sleep.
Back to The Mill, reports to write, a shit, a shave, my pit to creep.
Shaken awake, in a short time, for festive lunch to slowly eat,
whilst prancing officers on well-slept feet give the 'lower ranks' their yearly treat.
On Christmas Day.

I would think most if not all campsites would be closed at Xmas. No need to worry as theres many great spots to Wildcamp. Motorhomecraic is a great place to get more info. Kinsale Co.Cork has some great spots, Wildcamped in Charlesfort last year, It overlooks the harbour and town....lovely place. Also, There is a fantastic free Aire in Cobh, Co.Cork, stayed there last month prior to heading for Europe....Another lovely location. You can park up practically anywhere here in Ireland, Its safe and the people are the friendliest in the world;)
....pic is of cobh aire last month...
