I am wanting to buy a 1500amp Inverter to use approx 10 minutes a day when not on electric sites there I know I need a pure sine inverter but there are so many on the market at all different prices I look at one on eBay for £120 then I look at one at Roadpro at nearly £400 can anybody help for advice I have not got a fortune to spend but I don't want to waste my money I will need to run a plug from the inverter to a socket which is about 4 mitres
Thanks Alan

Hi Alan

When you are searching it is 1500 watts not amps, also make sure that it is continuous and they are not advertising peak power which will be twice the continuous but only spike for a few seconds to start something up.

My only experience is with the expensive ones and it has a remote start/stop on it as well, think about where you are mounting it remembering that short 12v leads are important, if it is mounted out of the way the remote Start/stop might help so do you get these on the cheap ones.

The only shred of info I can give is that the distance from the plug to the inverter isn't an issue (within reason)
The crucial bit is the distance between the Inverter and the battery. It should be as short as possible and the two should be connected by the biggest baddest cable (Think the stuff that is already connecting the battery 'Live' terminal in the engine bay.)

A 1500 watt psw inverter is a serious bit of kit and if it were me, I would want a good quality one. Brands I would consider are Sterling, Victron, Votronic or possibly Waeco.

You don't say why you need a pure sine wave inverter. Very few things actually need one and a modified square wave inverter is cheaper and smaller/lighter if you don't actually need it.
The only thing I have that needs a psw inverter is the toothbrush charger and that is rated at 1w.

@funflair, can you please explain how the remote feature works? I have been given a psw inverter with this switch option from a kind fellow Funster and the place I want it fitting would make reaching the on/of switch rather difficult!

Sorry for hijacking the thread!!

The remote is usually specific to the inverter you have. Ebay is your friend. There should be a socket to plug it in though these vary enormously.
If you feel moderately competent to do so, open up the inverter and solder a long lead across the contacts on the on/off switch and put a switch of your choice on the other end. These switches only switch a low current not the actual 12v supply.

I was going to say "wot reallyretired said" but then read on, ah well on ours the remote switching is an option and yes it just lugs in and then you mount the little panel some place convenient.

Thanks guys, I will see about buying a remote for my particular model as I can see it solving the problem of where to fix it!
