Just had a £437 quote from Saga for fully comp insurance for our new on order Swift Bolero 722fb, does anyone have any idea for more competitively priced insurance from other insurers.

many many years! since I was a kid
If your a member of the caravan club or camping & caravanning club you get a discount from many insurers. Safe guard have always been competitive for us over the years and include AA breakdown cover in the cost which will recover even larger vans. Be aware that if you just get aa or rac cover directly they have a weight and size limit of vans they will recover. Either add it using insurance or via the clubs to ensure your covered

HER; It wont matter sir

ME It will, the underwriters need to knwo

HER No sir, its quite all right, I dont need to do anything else

ME At the risk of being rude, you dont know what you are talking about, now get soem advice from someone.

SHORT PAUSE

HER Ive spoken to my manager sir, its all OK

ME OK, send me an email now, saying that the policy covers my vehicle as a CAT D insurance write off

HER WHAT........A WRITE OFF,.......ERM......ERM.....ERRRRRRRR

ME, Now i have your attention,...contact your underwriters NOW, give them the details, and ask for guidance for me.

ANOTHER SHORT PAUSE

HER Sir I am so so so so so sorry...blah blah blah blah

ME Next time, listen to your customer, they probably know more than you do, and remember, they are trying to insure something that probably cost them their life savings, get it right!

HER Here is what the underwriters want sir,..........sorry sorry grovel grovel.

I used comfort including contents, breakdown and europe for a 5.2 t gross £345 with up to 10k miles per annum, could not believe it after paying over £100 more for a caravan worth 75% less £'s:thumb:

Since 2005
four companies you could try....

Safeguard

Frank Pickles

Adrian Flux

Sureterm direct

these seem the most popular ones.

check included breakdown cover limitations, if its included, as most insurers have a 3500kg limit but wont tell you if you don't ask and you could save some money on the premium, your van appears to be 4250kg so wont be covered for recovery.

check windscreen replacement cost limit.... I don't know the cost of one for your van but many companies limit cost to £1000 per claim.

since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
Been with "Lifesure" for a while now(£235Fully comp), did the the full roundup this time & they were only beaten by Stavely Head, but decided to stick with them as the excesses are lower & I can't be bothered with the hassle for £20. Got a few mates who found Lifesure are the best so give them a try.

TWO DEAR

I use comfort for my Rapido £374 including European & UK breakdown cover. I could probably get it cheaper by shopping around but I find Comfort service quite good.

I cancelled Saga

a year ago because it was too expensive, and moved to Safeguard. Since then I regularly get letters from Saga advertising their motorhome insurance - sometimes more than o0ne a month. Guess why they are so expensive....

Not long enough!
As someone has already hinted on, don't forget, most motorhomes do very low mileges and that can have quite an impact on your insurance quotes, so try to calculate how many you are going to do. I put down 5000 but have not got anywhere near that yet:RollEyes::thumb:

Ps I insured mine through Asda Financial services:thumb:

We've been with them in the past, and were quite happy, after their top management got involved with a claim. They are a part of the Equity Red Star Group.

Cheers,

Jock.

Try the Caravan Club - if you are a member.

They do not require an alarm to be fitted, only an imobiliser.

Many other insurers require an alarm for vans over £50k or replacement value (new for old for two years on new vans) of £50k+

I wish I had your problems. As a visitor from Australia my insurance for a motorhome starts in the thousands. Looking for a good broker.

As you have found out, you need a uk address to get insurance easily at a competitive price here. If you have friends with an address here, you could use that and then contact a brokerage such as A Plan or Adrian Flux for a competitive quote

Comfort for me too, never had a claim so can't comment on that but around £300 including B/D cover. Saga? Tried them for everything in the past, car, motorhome, boat, house and contents - far too expensive on all of them!
