Good evening all, having a "van" for daily use and kitted out to carry a couple of bikes and a stove, and plug in a kettle etc we spent 10 days touring Europe (sleeping in hotels and guest houses) and loved the experience.
We enjoyed it so much our son talked us into buying a "Motorhome" (is that the correct terminology ?), we purchased a Autotrail Cheyanne with only 17k on the clock.
It is packed with everything we could have wished for, it is proving a little difficult for me to get used to.
My biggest problem at the moment is Charging the batteries, i have it plugged into the mains but cant tell if it is charging, hence my questions.
A. How can i tell if it's charging the batteries ?
B. I can hear a high pitched whistle coming from the rear compartment ? what does that mean ?
I expect that these questions will be the first of many, I'm hoping that someone out there can help me.
Thank's in anticipation.

:hiya2: Dave, welcome to the fun (y) If you're not sure about any aspect of the forums, check out the Broken Link Removed

Meanwhile, your questions..

A. How can i tell if it's charging the batteries. Do you have a control panel? I think Autotrails tend use Sergent panels, maybe you could take a pic of it or give us a model number.

B. I can hear a high pitched whistle coming from the rear compartment. Is that the rear locker-space? Do you know if you have an inverter? They can whistle when the battery is low? Have a good look and see what tech stuff is in the locker, I'm sure we'll be able to help.

Thank you and hello to you all.
To Jim, it does have a digital panel above the side door, i think i should take a few shots of the display and also of the main electric fusebox compartment that appears to house all that gubbins.
I will post the photo's probably tomorrow.
Thank you.

I can well understand your confusion. I felt rather overwhelmed after buying a motorhome on my own. Woke up the next morning thinking what have I done... I think my first question on here was did it matter which order I plugged the EHU lead in. Yes, my knowledge was that basic. :)
Well worth becoming a fully paid up member. You'll gain lots of knowledge, there's always help and a lt of laughs too.

I still know next to nothing about electrics though........

Loads of help available on here so ask away - don't be shy about it because we've all been there.
Once you get over the worry you'll really enjoy motorhomeing.

Welcome,

Some of the answers you get are fantastic on here.
Then there are my answers !
a) My wife tells me about ours. I really dont understand batteries. I put them in, they charge, when they dont work after 3 or 4 years i buy 2 new ones.
b) The inverter sounds like a great guess considering nothing is known atm. If there is a garage area at the rear, are you sure the illegals hiding in there arent whistling ?

I have to ditto the becoming a full member as your free 5 posts will very shortly disappear (and you keep the price down for me) !!!!!

Thank you All. Not sure how to navigate this forum yet, i guess i will get the hang of it.
Not even sure if I'm posting my replies to previous questions in the right place ?
Anyway, Photo's of the Panel's above the entrance door.
I have more comments below the photo's...........
Not sure what's happening here ? trying to post photo's and it's crashing ?

My other question was, i am connected to main's supply in my garage and to the Van by way of usual cable etc, but i dont appear to have any power in the van, no light's no microwave etc
I'm not sure which way is on or off (the red button on the EC325) ?
