If you don't use Campsites, where do you stop?

I'm new to the world of MH and hope to live onboard more than not, but was wondering if the only legal place to stop is an official campsite?

What do people who live onboard do?

    Many thanks
    Richard

I feel you have opened a big can of worms so grab your hard Hat :Eek!:

Us? we have just been away for 8 nights 6 on sites, and 2 wild camps.
Some opt for Cls some opt for laybys.

you pays your money as they say.

In the UK.. CLs, in France, Aires with occasional wild camps

On route, motorway services or roadside cafe's .. we don't use laybys .. wouldn't feel safe..

france has to be the most motorhome freindly country in europe.

nearly every small town/large village will have a communal campsite or an aire and they welcome you.
they could be anywhere.....in the town square/market place, by a river or even in a vineyard.
some have elec hookups, some have dump points, most have water.
costs can be as little as FREE !!!! usually just a few euros per night.
not like a regular campsite.....no reception, bar/clubhouse....just somewhere to park for the night (or two)
you could also wild camp but why bother when you can use the aires?

    Hi

CLs .. Certified Locations.. a network of around 3,000 small five van sites run by the Caravan Club .. mostly on farms or pubs.. all have water and black waste dumping, many have EHU .. prices from about £7 depending on facilities and location

It's IMO the only good reason to join the Caravan Club..

The last time we "Wild Camped" it was on a side street just off the front at Blackpool, it had a great sea view. As I work from my motorhome as a motorhome valeter, if I work out of my area I like to find somewhere that I can park up overnight that has a great view when I wake up and I can drive off early and not wake anyone up.
