Been around the block a few times😉
Well we threw ourselves in at the deep end having only used the campervan for a few weeks since we got it 2 years ago.
We bought it with the intention of taking us & Charlie the dog to Fuertventura for our winters.

Booked the tunnel 26 October not knowing what to expect never been to France not really any plans or directions & no expectation.

Yes we had the odd hiccups lost a full set of keys even left the front windows down overnight
(thought the Eberspacher was on a lot):ROFLMAO:

But we've met lots of great people along the way had a few laughs with no regrets (y)

Now we know what an Aire looks like some good some ok:whistle: but we can find them and make a decision on the spot the campsites in Spain have all been good the roads in France & Spain excellent.

At the moment we're at Estepona in the sunshine killing a few days before moving on elsewhere for another few days before moving to Cadiz for the ferry crossing to Lanzerote for a few days sight seeing then onto Fuerteventura for winter.

Have posted this for anyone worrying can they travel abroad ?
We have it's a doddle (y)

Have a blast, something we have toyed with going to one of the islands. Be interested to hear how you get on especially with a dog as we have 3.

Wow! You certainly know how to enjoy yourselves. Have a great time in the Canary Islands. We'll be in Tenerife for a week in December but we're flying there. Never thought of going there in the MH. Will be interested to know how you get on.

Sounds great - certainly a big adventure for your first trip abroad with the van!

Have you got somewhere in mind where you're going to stay on Fuerteventura? Although I don't think there are any campsites on the islands, I reckon there are probably some places to wild it.

There are generally a few vans around the islands, mostly Spanish but also a few Germans.

Thanks for the info and prices for the ferries - what sort of van are you travelling in - a van conversion or a coachbuilt?

Hope you have a great trip and keep us updated on your progress. (y)

Hi mike we're in a pvc 5.5m pop top always our plan to go to Fuertventura.
Fortunately we have alternative accommodation when we get there but we intend to use the van to see the island in a different way hopefully staying wild camping.

We're not sure how we stand on the legality of wilding as not much information comes up but we've met a few people at El Cotilo (surfers) who managed for months also see various vans down towards the coastline between Caleta & the airport.

Google comes up with a van hire company based in Fuertventura that will provide a list of places to stay when you hire off them.

We have a lot of friends who live there full time a couple have taken British reg cars over & reckon we'll get stopped a bit to start with so we will be carrying copies of our return ferry tickets etc.

We really are making this trip up as we go that way we can never get lost

We had a villa for 2 weeks there a couple of years ago, too barren for us, but we just about covered the whole island in our hire car, there were many places we saw that had wild camping potential though.

Thanks @Charlie - Minton. Your post was perfect timing for me as only last night myself and a few friends decided we would put our names down for the Twin Lakes meet next year. Very apprehensive about the drive as not done anything like this before!!

All sounds good! You'll be able to easily explore Lanzarote and Fuerteventura with your van, and I'm sure you'll find plenty of places to stop over.

We know most of the Canaries fairly well (but not with the van) - haven't been to El Hierro yet, but Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma and La Gomera - they've all got places suitable to park and at least they are not overrun with campers.

Just back from Lanzarote and spotted a pleasant place with some vans by the beach on the southern outskirts of Arrieta, on the north-east coast.

Three Google links illustrate:

If you fancy going somewhere a bit smart on Lanzarote, check out the new millionaire's marina at Peurto Calero. We were quite impressed when we discovered it on this trip, but not sure you could camp there. Good free daytime parking however, if you arrive reasonably early. Lots of posh shops and water-front eateries.

Have a great trip! (y)

A short update as we're only just getting ourselves sorted.

We left Estepona & landed at Barbate we had a great spot on the edge of the Brena Parc Natural the weather turned from good to unbelievable but hey we didn't have to go to work.
But a lot of the roads were closed due to flooding & mud slides so we set the awning up & set up base camp for a week.

The rain came with a vengeance along with the thunderstorms without a break for over 3 days on day 6 the sun came out with the forecasted rain to return so we made "the great escape"

So we got to Cadiz after a few detours around the closed roads the sun was still Scorching the flags we parked up in the carpark for the night €3
changed our mind & parked right by the ship Where the trucks park.

All was quiet up until the early hours when it sounded like 3 million trucks units & tanks had moved around the parking area.
Note to self "stay on the other carpark on the return"

Cadiz was fabulous again on our return journeys we will be staying here for a lot longer.

Next day we loaded on the ferry we new roughly what to expect (thanks @ Yorick)
the kennels were ok but we didn't like leaving Charlie to try out barking the other dogs.
Walkies were every 2hrs up until midnight then again in the morning.

Food on the ferry was fine just too much of it but we all ways snaffled some for Charlie strangely he left his meaty balls but ate the turkey, ham, pork & steak we brought him from the restaurant.

We didn't get much sleep for the the next 30 hrs (our choice) but we unloaded @ Lanzerote 2am kippered to say the least but decided to travel the 30 - 40 miles to Playa Blanca to try for a standby ticket to Fuertventura.

Drove to the port & had a cat nap until 5am & waited for the ticket office to open.

We couldn't book a ticket on line as the wifi stops working halfway between Cadiz & Lanzerote & orange & O2 don't work either.

The lads on Lanzerote were brilliant they realised we had traveled with a doggie (Charlie) and got us on the first crossing 7am.

We got on the catamaran only a 25 minute crossing how perfect the sun started to rise we landed on Fuertventura with a golden glow as if the island was saying welcome home.

We drove into Corralejo & let Charlie out to cock his leg up where he met his first Fuertventura dog by the sea.
We drove through the hills ignoring the sat nav as we knew where we were

LOL wrong we got lost for the first time in nearly 3000 miles lol

We hadn't been stopped by the police all the way from England to Fuertventura but we had kept a low profile.

So we took a wrong turn ended up in a narrow one way street with a Gardia Civil on point duty in front of us.

He jumped in front of the other traffic and waved us on only a few miles to go now.

We pulled up at our place Charlie spotted his first local cat & virtually ignored it (result) our garden looked the best we've ever seen it what a great welcome & trip.

Will try and post a few pics shortly as the wifi is a bit intermittent & also try & log a few wild camping spots as we travel around the island.

Sorry about the late updates but we sorta got carried away with partying
So we'll post a few photos in date order

We started off @ sea level drove through Antigua then Tuineje then Pajara then after Ajuy we took another route back up the mountains via Betancuria.
It was that high up I had to hold Charlie's ears down it was so windy.

The other tourists were surprised to see a Cavachon dog so high up in Fuertventura

We ended up back at Playa Blanca beach for some sausage butties & a brew

Sorry more to follow.
