I’m pretty sure that I can change the halogen bulbs in my Hymer Van 562 to LED but the question is how? I can’t work out how to follow the handbook’s “Pull the halogen bulb forward out of the socket”. Sounds easy, but there’s nothing to grip, no spring clip, or rubber gasket to remove. The protrusion on the back of the lamp has flat sides and so looks as though it could be unscrewed. I’m worried about breaking something. Help!

The attached photos are a bit fuzzy, but hopefully someone will recognise them?

not long enough
your problem would be the same just changing these bulbs, the connection is 2 pins like this

the problem is getting hold of the bulb to pull it, a small sucker might be needed and might have been supplied from new

then just fit a similar bulb but with LED (y)

I had some like that on my old van and managed to pull them out with the aid of a suction cup like those used for grinding valves in or on the pointed end of indoor arrows.

Like these....

Use a suction cup on the flat surface of the bulb. (a kid's bow and arrow type or a suction towel hook, whichever comes to hand first)

If you google "halogen bulb removal tool" it will come up with loads but all you need is a 'sucker' and job done, will most likely just be a pull job but some you may need to twist then pull

Ooerr! Less than 2 minutes and 4 identical solutions! Sounds like a plan, but I gave away my bow and arrow a while back! I will try some Blu-tack and sellotape tomorrow (I'm not allowed out after dark) and if they don't work, I will go and buy and bow and arrow. Many thanks Funsters (y)

If the instructions just say pull out of fitting then you should just have the push in pin type (y)

As said above you need a sucker type tool to remove them.

Excellent idea to change them but make sure you have the right bulb connections as there are two types,

Also warm white are the best colour

Peter

Thanks Peter and yes, I would go for warm white having learned my lesson in the house!

Also, as I understand it, I should choose bulbs rated 8-30v because the battery may deliver more than 12v?

This is the little sucker you need. Amazon or any electrical shop should sell them

I just prise them out with a couple of fine screwdrivers or a penknife, whatever's to hand.

Yes, all mine are 8-30v for exactly that reason. 13.7v I think.

So, with the help of my £2.99 Halogen Extractor tool from Screwfix I have removed two different bulbs, both rated 10 watts. The Hymer Handbook is as helpful as ever by omitting to state what fitting they are but, the first one is helpfully labelled MR16+C 12v 10w. The second one is merely labelled 12v 10w. Is it a G4? The bulb fits a flush mounted light, with a frosted glass(?) cover over the hob and in the bathroom. It plugs into the side of the fitting, rather than the back.
Most sites simply state that their bulbs are 12v (confirmed with live chat on Outdoor Bits) with only one site stating that their bulbs are rated for 11v-15v and I know that I need a range at least as small as that.
For the MR16, I don't want the flat fittings with yellow led's clearly visible. In our caravan we had leds with little lenses over each one and this improved the brightness and the beam.
Does the +C mean anything material on the MR16?
Can anyone confirm the LED equivalent fitting for the second bulb (side fitting)?
Where can I buy the sort that I prefer?
Isn't this Fun
