Its on 24250 now, and I know for a fact the reserve will be much more than that, and would be very surprised if it was less than 50,000 reserve.

Ugly as sin, but beautiful with it. Majestic! I can see why you like it.

If it runs as good as it looks, it would be great fun. Not for shrinking violets!

That's awesome. @Snowbird Dave would you care to hazard a guess as to what it would take to get past that reserve?

I would be very surprised if the reserve would be set at anything less than 50,000 Euros. If you consider how much it would cost to restore a base vehicle of that age to that condition, then add the conversion cost onto that, you are maybe looking at 6 figure numbers. It will not only appeal to the motorhomer that wants something different, it will appeal to Mercedes agents who want a show-piece. There are people out there that would be willing and able to pay a lot of money for something as unique as that, so as much as I would love to own it, am afraid its well out of my meagre reserve funds. I could of course appeal to the generosity of my good friend JJ for financial help and relieve him of some of the lumps under his mattress :D.

To give some idea of what it "could" be worth, here is a similar model in basket case mode.

It is stunning but the interior colours are not for me, there are too many of gem and I don't like the red work tops and carpet and weird tassels on the curtains. I'd love an old bus like this to do up myself in more subtle colours.

This English vintage motorhome was on ebay last year. Modern engine and running gear, luxury interior; they wanted £100,000 for it, I think. :Eeek:

I remember that up for sale, but thought it more than £100,000. As I said before, when you consider the cost of fully restoring the base vehicle, then the fitting of quality interiors it can be seen where the money has gone. There are people that will spend that sort of money restoring a classic car to concours condition, so imagine what something like this would cost to restore.
Several years ago a BMW CSI came into my possession with a history file from Beaulieu where the previous owner had spent £60,000 on restorations. It was then left outside under a sheet and required another £10,000 spending on it. Some people have money to burn.

I see this is still for sale with offers too £999,999 so that is more in line with retired ex pat magicians lording it up on Portugals beaches funds.

Am now out of the running on the wonderful Mercedes, as at over 75000 and not as yet hit reserve, it would be a very brave man who would be willing to invest over my original appraisal of 100,000. I would imagine it going into a museum or a large Mercedes dealers showroom and not coming to a campsite near you any day soon. Ah well, back to the search engines !!!.
