Why does everything have to get more complicated when you buy a new van?

I have spent two days locating a pinging sound frantically wondering what had gone wrong.... especially when driving.

Of course the battery in the smoke alarm was spent.! Stupid me. Why do I need a smoke alarm in a 5.4m van? My old van had nothing that made strange noises.

Could be worse, our smoke alarm went off while we were on the motorway doing 65ish, next services was 7 miles away. Longest 7 miles of my life! Nearly launched the bloody thing when we arrived :D
