Today in the long running saga to get reinstated my C1 qualification on driving licene (entitlement to drive vans over 3500kg due to age).

Decided it was too dodgy driving them down at 10pm at night, pushed my luck far enough by then.

Last November I went to the Royal Berks to have a treadmill test, told them I could not run due to breathlessness (smoking) but they still said I had to do it, needless to say I lasted 3.5 minutes!

At long last I got an appointment at a London hospital 1.5 hours drive away from where I live to go for a drug induced stress test on my heart.

After waiting for 45 minutes after my appointment time, they attempted to stick a needle feed in my left arm, gave up after two attempts to get the vein, then tried the right arm and eventually succeeded.

Squirted some drug into me which made my pulse rate go up from 60 to 129 beats per minute, then squirted some radiactive tracer into me and pushed me off for 20 minutes to let the radioactive particles stick to my heart.

Then off to this scanner which took 20 minutes to take pictures of my heart whilst I lay flat on my back.

Got to go back AGAIN on Thursday to another injection of radioactive stuff and another 20 minute scan to watch my heart no longer under stress.

Forgot to ask if my b**lls were now radioactive :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

All because three years ago I had a couple of stents in my groin, told them they were for my legs and they are below my heart.

Now you know what you could be in for when you hit the magic 70

More to follow!

Tony:cry:

That's a very sad statement straight from the heart. I see it often on local TV, it happens a lot. It must be the most terrible decision for any medical person to make.

What can they do ? £20,000 for course of treatment that might give someone a few months uncomfortable life or a heart transplant that could give someone 50 years or replace may hips in old women. No win and it's going to get worse.

What does stand out for me is the cost of these drugs. Money grabbing b^%^^%^ds comes to mind. Do they have to charge so much ? Could they not average out some prices ? Capitalism at it's worse. If there were a global fund to design these drugs they could be sold for coppers.

In Peter's case you may well find he's footing the bill. Anyway with the taxes he and his companies pay he's already paid all of your son's medical expenses.

It must be terrible for you, I can't think of a worst situation for a father.

I came close as a granddad. Granson born with a hole in his diaphragm. Within days he was operated on, bits put where they belong and hole stitched up, now he's terribly active three year old. But that first two or three weeks of his life was horrible for all of us.

My wife's younger sister died young of cancer. That was grim. She got all the treatment but to no avail. I look back and see her smiling now, she always smiled.

Don't beat yourself up life can be really shitty at times.

Brian im not beating myself up but it does annoy me when I see so much money being wasted in the NHS I worked for it for 23 years, that when it comes to treating patients we have to have post code treatment, dorest are very tight with their money

You think Dorset are tight - you should try Cornwall! Dorset are angels compared to Cornwall. Like mother emergency heart op (due in two years or so). They told her 'You may not live to see the operation, but it will save the NHS some money'

That is all you hear down here!

As for Peters radioactive gooseberries - it is all about finding out what drivers have passed at the roadside BEFORE stopping them.

ANPR can pick up a glowing cab from a mile or so away, and confirms that the driver is fit to drive and has been checked!:thumb:

It's defeated the best brains, it's a dinosaur. Through having old relatives I've seen the inside of too many hospitals and every time I walk in one all I see is £££££££££££££££££££. I've never seen anything approaching it for chaos, from factories to airports, nothing shouts Money Pit like a hospital.

At least the very well delivered budget has just kept the NHS budget ( I think ).

But it can't just blunder on, can it.

Never a truer word spoken!

I have a friend who used to work for a local hospital as a nurse, after he left the army. He left the hospital (and the profession) as it was driving him insane with all the bad management.

He stated that there were 14 managers for every nurse, and the nurses were run off their feet and could not cope with long hours and elderly equipment. These managers were all on 60-100k pay range per year. To him it was a manic waste of resources, when that wage would be better spent on staff and equipment, and some paint on the peeling walls.

He then went on to say that when he was in the army, they had 120 nurses, and one man managing and another doing admin. They had no infection problems, no overworked nurses and everything ran like clockwork.

If they can do that in the army, why not in civilian hospitals??

Basically because in the Army there is a clear chain of command, no quangos, no power hungry Health and Safety twats or Politically Correct morons and people get on with the job and they are treating fellow comrades.

Update:

Went to hospital at 1-30pm and as they were about to inject me the poxy fire alarm went off so had to go outside whilst it was sorted.

Got the injection, painless this time as they used a 'butterfly' thing in the back of my hand unlike before when they had about five goes in both elbows before they succeeded.

Lay in scanner for 25 minutes whilst it did its business, had a look afterwards on the PC screen at the old heart pumping merrily away, all beyond me.

Told results go off to DVLA and expect to hear within seven days, if not phone DVLA :ROFLMAO:some chance of getting a human!

This started in November, only taken EIGHT months, met a chap in there who had a blocked artery in the heart area and he had to wait FOUR months for an appointment for a scan as they did not want to put a stent in as it could cause some rubbish to be disturbed and get into his heart.

Very poor show for him.
